LOVE this episode!!!!!! One of my favorites!!!!!! HATE the blue hair on Hades (looks RIDICULOUS!!!!) but LOVE Greg Germann and you really get a feel for Hades’ character in this episode. Love the introduction scene with Emma, Rumple and Meela - they pull off the awkwardness so well and it makes me chuckle every time! LOVED your reactions!!!!!! It’s so fun feeling like I’m watching this series with someone! Thanks for taking the time to do what you do! 😀

Samuel

Rumple is the ultimate bad decision maker, I mean, even tho you completely get why he makes the choices you still want to scream at him for doing it, which I think is so brilliant, cos I think most people would probably do the same in his position - it's all a matter of circumstance, which the show is so good at, also with the whole "Evil is made, not born" thing - well, with the one exception of Cruella, who I still just love so much, she's such a fun character, and I love that they brought her back for this arc, she was a big fan fave, so no doubt that played a big part in getting her back, but it's genius how they have her become the new mayor of Underbrooke, love that by the way, after Cora has moved on ^^ Looking forward to the next OUaT :)

Devil's Due- Thank you very much for this reaction to yet another marvelous episode, Jay! I really enjoy this episode a lot for the most part. Most of all... I am so, so happy that Emma has finally found Killian and that she has saved him from Hades' wrath. At least for now. And while I have never liked Milah before, this is the one episode in which I do actually feel a little more sympathy for her, whereas I never could before. And yes... Rumple is ever so cruel, and even though I still don't care all that much for Milah, I hate Rumple for what he does to her once again. I'll come back to each of these points momentarily... First, regarding the overall backstory between Rumple and Milah, as they work together to save a very young Baelfire from the snake's poison upon him getting bitten... this is most definitely my least favorite of all the storylines throughout this episode. Like I've mentioned numerous times... I am not a fan of Milah's character. I've never liked her, so I wasn't all that thrilled to see that we would be seeing another backstory with her in it, where she would most certainly treat Rumple just as she always has... cruelly. And while Milah does treat Rumple throughout most of this episode like I expected of her, in the end of this backstory, I absolutely understand why Milah is so angry and hurt by Rumple this time. And I can absolutely understand a little better why Milah eventually does run off with Killian, which we see in season two's episode... The Crocodile, as we see her leave in the end of this episode to go back to the tavern where Killian is undoubtedly still there telling his adventure stories and tales that she has grown to admire about him. It's wrong of her to just up and leave Rumple and especially her son to have an affair with Killian. No question. But I can understand why she is so hurt upon Rumple agreeing to give up their second born child should they ever have one, making it so that Milah can't ever have another child. And until this point... you can see that Milah was trying very hard to keep her family with Rumple and their son together, even though she was already unhappy because of the strain from Rumple becoming seen by everyone in their village as the village coward. Again... I do actually grow to feel badly for her by the end of this episode. Both in the backstory and within the present day storyline too, which again, I will come back to shortly... Upon Bae becoming bitten by the snake that he foolishly becomes fascinated by, Rumple and Milah seek out a man they have heard has the ability to heal their son. Now, in case you have never seen the Disney movie... Atlantis: The Lost Empire, or you don't recognize the makeup and design of Fendrake the Healer, his character is a nod to this Disney movie, as Fendrake the Healer is Atlantean. If you watch the Disney movie, you would recognize that this healer's makeup and costume design match those of the Atlanteans within the Disney movie. Which is pretty great. Atlantis: The Lost Empire isn't a widely familiar or beloved Disney movie aside by those who do love it. However, I appreciate that it is recognized and given a nod here in Once Upon a Time such as this movie deserves. For the most part... I do like this healer. Or rather... I like the idea behind his character. We're not meant to like him, because Fendrake is cruel to hold back on healing Rumple's and Milah's son without forcing them to give him something of great value in return. He isn't a good man. And yet I like the storyline his character brings about throughout this episode's backstory, as Rumple and Milah seek him out to heal their son, only to be forced to either kill him or to pay him what he demands of them. And then... when Rumple is unable to kill him upon Milah demanding he do so, so that they can steal the potion that would heal Bae, this healer then offers Rumple another choice... to sell him his second born child Milah has yet to bare. And without even consulting his wife, Rumple easily makes this deal with Fendrake the healer, and takes away her only chance at having another child, as well as even her choice to do so. And this is absolutely wrong of Rumple to do. Rumple may still be a good man at this point within this backstory, but he is very callous to so easily give up Milah's choice to have another child. And once again, we see just how much of a coward Rumple is and had been back then. My favorite scene within the overall backstory, is when we see Milah's first meeting with Killian, back when he was just a pirate Captain still growing his reputation. Back before he became Captain Hook. I love that while Killian is a pirate, who has undoubtedly done some horrible things by this point in his life, we also see there is still a lot of good in him too. As Killian not only defends Milah's honor when he appears to protect her from the ruffian who tries to attack her, but he also is kind to her as he shares tales with her of the things he's seen on his many adventures and then offers to take her with him upon recognizing how unhappy she is upon being trapped in her small village. Killian also backs down and walks away when Milah tells him no and that she has a husband, respecting that she is married. And by him doing so, we learn that Milah is clearly the one who keeps coming back to Killian and instigating their upcoming affair. Killian is in the wrong too for allowing her to seduce him, but it's clearly Milah who is more to blame for what comes of her, which we see in the events shown in season two's episode... The Crocodile. And now as for the present day storyline... Rumple begins to seek out Neal, not knowing that Neal isn't in the Underworld, since Emma clearly hasn't told him yet that Neal had come to her. However, in this beginning, we don't yet know that Rumple is seeking out Neal. Only that he is searching for something upon using his magic to create a crystal ball in which he soon sees Belle lying safe and asleep still up in Storybrooke. And in seeing her, he becomes quite scared and agitated. A mystery that isn't revealed as to why, until the very end of this episode. Meanwhile... the heroes are preparing to continue their search for Killian, until Rumple interrupts and tells Emma that if she wants any real chance of saving him, then she alone should join in hm in the search to find him. And Emma is unaware as to why he is so eager and anxious to help her to find a man he hates so deeply. And yet... Emma reluctantly agrees to go with him alone, knowing that he is most likely the one who will find Killian faster than she and her loved ones would on their own without his help. Gold then tells her to meet him shortly, after which he goes off to find Milah down here in the Underworld, as Milah too is still trapped here and has been ever since Rumplestiltskin had killed her over two hundred years earlier... as is seen in The Crocodile. And Milah is not happy to see him either. With good reason for sure. Rumple finds her taking care of the souls of the children who are all also very sadly trapped here as well. I can't believe that there would be any children trapped in this Hell, let alone there being so many. It's really tragic. Rumple then mocks Milah about her duties here in the Underworld being ironic, given that she has been tasked to look after these children, when she had run away from her own child so long ago. He's right, but it's not nice of him to mock her and to make her continue to feel badly about her decision that we come to learn truly is her greatest and deepest regret. But before this... Gold tells her that he's not yet dead and why he's come to find her, and offers her a chance to help save Killian from Hades' wrath. Which of course she agrees to do, because she does still care for him and clearly wants a chance to see him again. And then... Emma and Milah meet one another as Gold introduces them in the most hilarious way possible, as he goes through this whole hilarious spiel about both of these women being with Killian, and how Emma has also been with his and Milah's son as well. Emma's facial expressions as he explains her relationships to Milah are priceless. So funny. And I just love how Gold mocks this whole awkward situation, just to make it even more awkward out of spite. Nonetheless... Emma, Milah, and Gold continue on their mission to find and save Killian, as Rumple guides them to the Underworld's own version of Emma's home that Killian had picked out for them up in Storybrooke, where they discover a tunnel down into the deepest depths of the Underworld where he believes Killian is being held prisoner by Hades. As they're continuing on their search, Emma and Milah talk quietly, as Milah shares with Emma her remorse over having abandoned her son years ago. And I do actually believe her this time, when I didn't believe her at all when she claimed to be sorry for leaving Bae back in The Crocodile. And from Rumple's facial expressions that we see in the background during their conversation, it appears that he actually does believe her for the first time as well. Which is a big step for him. And I love that Emma finally shares with Milah and Gold that she has seen Neal, and assures Milah, as well as Gold that Neal is at peace and is happy. Now, in the very beginning of this episode, continuing directly from where the previous episode... Labor of Love, ends... Hades has just given Killian a terrible choice where he is forced to choose which of his loved ones must stay in the place of the souls he and the heroes have helped to move on from the God's cruel realm. And Hades has placed the chisel in his one hand so that Killian must carve the names of his choice on the tombstones himself. This is the first of my favorite scenes within this episode. Thankfully, and just like I expected of Killian... Killian of course refuses to choose anyone and tosses the chisel away from him, refusing to take part in Hades' cruel game and manipulations for as much as he's able to do so. I love Killian all the more for remaining so strong against Hades, even though he's still in so much pain. Unfortunately, Hades becomes even angrier with Killian, and therefore he cruelly forces Killian to his feet in spite of Killian barely being able to walk, let alone stand, and then guides him to a boat that floats them through the green river flowing from his lair, to a chamber in which Hades will soon inflict the worst kind of torture onto Killian. A chamber with a warning carved into the stone above its entrance. "Abandon all hope, all ye who enter here."... a famous quote from the classic novel, Dante's Inferno. And while traveling further into the depths of the Underworld, Hades warns Killian not to touch the green river flowing beneath them, as he goes on to explain to him that this river is the River of Lost Souls, in which any soul who find themselves fated to become a part of, become lost and tormented husks. The worst kind of punishment and torment any soul can receive. And you can see a vast number of souls floating within this green river too, which is so eerie. And I suspect becoming a soul within the River of Lost Souls would be worse than anyone even moving on to the Worse Place. In my second favorite scene within this episode... Hades then hoists Killian up by the very thick and rusted chain he is soon restrained in, high above a platform with an opening in its middle just above the River of Lost Souls, and cruelly taunts his prisoner. Hades darkly threatens Killian to lose what remains of his hope that his loved ones will come to save him before he will soon become another one of his collected tormented souls floating within the green river now beneath him as he very slowly comes to be lowered further towards it little by little. Hades hates the hope that the heroes who've come to try to save his prisoner have given him and all the other souls they've been helping since their arrival in the Underworld, and he therefore wants to see it extinguished from Killian's eyes. And if this isn't bad enough, Hades also taunts to Killian than he will continue to hurt his loved ones and friends, while he tightens the chain around him even further, causing Killian even more pain, as Killian gasps out while his blood continues to drain from his body, including from his mouth. This scene is tragic and horrible, but it is so well acted by both Colin O'Donoghue and Greg Germann. I love it! Next... Emma, Rumple, and Milah finally come to the chamber where Killian is being held, and Emma confirms as such upon revealing to the others that she can feel Killian close by. Which I absolutely love! I love that Emma feels such a deep connection to the man she loves so deeply. And more so... I love that while she is feeling him, Emma is holding tightly to Killian's ring he had given to her back in Camelot to express his love for her when he asked Emma to come back to him. So, so beautiful. Unfortunately, Gold then states he is going to remain with the boat that he had gotten for them so they too could travel across the green river to get to this chamber. And upon becoming suspicious of her ex's motives, Milah then tells Emma to find Killian on her own, while she remains in the boat with Gold so she can keep her eyes on him. Which sadly results in Gold eventually killing Milah so to speak, for a second time and in the worst way possible, when Gold selfishly and cruelly chooses himself after Hades offers him a deal that would give him a chance to return home to Belle, or a chance to protect Milah when Hades demands that Gold push her into the River of Lost Souls in order to keep Emma and Killian from learning the truth behind Hades' and Gold's upcoming conversation. And even though Gold actually had told Milah earlier on that he was happy she now has a chance to move on so she can be with her son and can finally apologize to him for abandoning him, knowing full well that this is truly why she has really joined him and Emma to save Killian aside from wanting the chance to say goodbye to Killian properly too, Gold once again cruelly makes the wrong choice when he uses his magic against Milah as he propels her back into the green river so that he can return home to Belle, believing that Hades will keep his word. I feel so badly for Milah, in spite of my hatred for her from the past episodes in which we've seen her. And I hate Gold for once again hurting someone else just to get what he wants for himself. In the meantime... Emma makes her way through the tunnel as fast as she's able to, and finally arrives inside the darkly lit chamber where she fearfully finds Killian hoisted by the chains holding him captive just above a hole in the platform over the River of Lost Souls. Emma immediately cries out his name and makes her way across one of the platform's beams as quickly as she's able to, so she can save Killian just before he touches the waters beneath him. And thankfully, she is able to save him just in the nick of time, just before the tip of his foot touches the green waters. And this is another of my absolute favorite moments within this episode. My absolute favorite moment! I love, love, love seeing Emma carefully pull Killian close to her and then take him into her arms as she holds him to comfort him, reassuring him that she really has come for him. And I love the words they speak to one another, as Killian tells Emma she should have let him go and that she shouldn't have come down here to the Underworld to save him. Yet Emma tells him that she had to and is happy she didn't listen to him. She never has, which Killian has come to recognize about her. Emma then adorably and playfully states that Killian loves her all the more for not listening to him when he had asked her not to risk her life for him this time. Killian just smiles at her, and then Emma once again pulls him close and holds him tightly before she finally frees him so they can leave, assuring Killian once more that she's here to save him. I believe Emma must sense just how deeply Killian needs to feel that she's real and that she truly has come for him in spite of his plea for her not to when he had sacrificed himself to save her and her family and their friends from the Darkness. This moment between Killian and Emma is so, so beautiful. I absolutely love it!!! :) A short time later... Emma returns with Killian at her side to Gold and Milah, only to discover that Milah has been thrown into the River of Lost Souls. And unfortunately, Emma and Killian both come to believe Gold's lie about how Milah is forced into the river, when he tells them that Hades had been the one to do it. And upon learning that Milah had come to help save him, only to discover that she received the very same punishment Hades planned to inflict upon him for doing so, Killian feels terrible. And you can absolutely see the guilt and his pain from learning of her fate in his eyes. As for the rest of the heroes... a majority of them must spend the time Emma's taking to save Killian with Gold's help either staying behind at the Charmings' loft or possibly exploring more of the Underworld, while Regina and Snow leave on their own to talk with someone about finding someone. Regina winds up talking with Cruella inside Granny's Diner upon catching her trying to sneak away, and Cruella explains to her how the gravestones work. That the tombstones which remain upright and untouched mean this person is somewhere here within the Underworld, that those which are tipped over mean that this person has moved on happily from the Underworld, and that the tombstones that have become cracked mean that the person has moved on to the Worse Place. I love this distinction between the tombstones. It's brilliant. And I really love this scene between Regina and Cruella, because I really love the banter between them. And then together, Regina and Snow seek out Daniel's tombstone. I love this moment Regina takes to say goodbye once again to Daniel upon seeing that he has moved on to the Better Place after their goodbye to one another shown back in season two's episode... The Doctor. Such a sweet moment for Regina and Snow once again. Then on their way back to the Charmings' loft, Regina is able to finds the strength of her magic within herself once again upon finding a wounded horse Regina quickly heals. I will admit that this scene is kind of strange and a bit confusing as to what it means, because it's hardly explained. We know that Regina has been struggling with her magic. I suspect that by discovering Daniel is truly at peace, and after helping her father to move on and by helping this horse too, Regina feels stronger than she's been feeling ever since her arrival within the Underworld, which builds up her strength and courage, allowing her magic to fully return again. I just wish this scene was explained better. And that her lack or magic to suddenly being able to use it fully again had been explained better. Finally... Emma and Killian return back to hers and her parents' loft thanks to Gold's magic when he brings them back, then they are soon greeted by the rest of the heroes, who are all immediately happy to see Killian again. Happy to see that Emma has been successful in rescuing him from Hades. I love how happy Henry is to see him again as he quickly makes his way over to him and gently pats his arm to offer him comfort, in spite of Killian's poor condition upon being tortured by the God. I love how sad Snow then is to see him in such poor condition, in a way apologizing to him for being in so much pain because they haven't been able to find him any sooner. Killian assures her that he's okay, then turns to Gold at last and darkly states that Emma has told him he has become the Dark One again and that he had taken his sacrifice away from him. And Killian is angry with Gold. Rightly so. And yet... he also chooses to let his anger towards Gold go upon stating that he understands Gold had helped Emma to get him out of Hades' clutches, for which he is grateful to. And I appreciate this brief moment between these two enemies. And then... Emma pleads with Regina to rip out her heart so that she can finally split it with Killian in order to resurrect him so he can return home with them alive again. I love how unsure and worried for Emma Killian becomes upon hearing what she hopes to do for him so she can save him. And yet he allows Emma to follow through with her plan to give him half of her heart like her parents share their heart as well. Sadly... Emma is suddenly forced back as a magic force keeps her from being able to give Killian his half of her heart. And in questioning why her plan fails, the heroes and Rumple soon discover the reason why. Because Hades has followed through with his threat to Killian, when he tried to force Killian to choose three names to take the places of the three souls they all helped to move on from his realm. Only, Hades has chosen the names of the heroes himself and has magically etched the names of Emma Swan, Snow White, and Regina Mills on the tombstones. And unfortunately, because Emma's name is now on a tombstone in spite of the three of them still being very much alive, she is unable to give Killian half of her heart to save him like she hoped to. Absolutely fabulous! Of course Hades wasn't going to allow the heroes get away with saving Killian from his clutches. Hades may have allowed for Emma to save Killian's soul from his torture for now, but it certainly wasn't going to be without a price. And he's not finished yet. Yikes! Also... while I hate Gold for being so callous about the heroes failing in their plan to restore life to Killian again in spite of saving him, I love his remark about having been able to find and free Killian in a single day, while the rest of the heroes have once again found an all new way to fail. And I love Robn's face he makes upon hearing Gold's taunt. You can see that Robin just wants to punch Gold so badly. So funny. And lastly... we have one final scene between Gold and Hades, when Gold returns to Hades to collect on his end of their deal they had made earlier. But unfortunately, Hades has tricked Rumple, claiming that he will still help him to get home again like he promised, but not right away. Because unfortunately, Hades needs something more from Gold first. And in order to force him into helping him, Hades reveals that Fendrake the Healer is also one of the souls trapped here in the Underworld, and that despite the Dark One's efforts to keep the deal he had made with the healer from coming to pass by killing him long ago once he had become the Dark One, Gold is still slave to the contract signed between them even after the healer's death. And what's worse... the healer has now signed their contract over to Hades, making it so that Gold now owes him his second born child. And Hades then reveals to Rumple that he's learned why he had been so worried upon looking into the crystal ball he had shattered earlier on when he looked into it and saw Belle. Because Belle is now pregnant with his second child, meaning that unless Gold does exactly as Hades demands of him, then he will be forced to give his and Belle's child over to Hades. Not good. And I feel so badly for Belle, because when she finally comes to learn the truth about all the terrible things Gold has done upon becoming the Dark One again and since, she is going to be so hurt. Overall... I enjoy this episode a lot for the most part. I absolutely love all of the scenes with Killian. Those between Killian and Hades, and especially the very beautiful moment shared between Killian and Emma. I also really enjoy most of the scenes with Regina, Snow, and Cruella too. Aside from the confusion I felt in the one scene I spoke of that is difficult to understand. I also love Hades all the more as a villain. He's brilliant and cruel, and I really like him because of how well Greg Germann plays his character. The backstory isn't nearly as strong as all the rest of the storylines throughout this episode. However, I really do appreciate that the creators and writers were able to write an episode that would allow me to like a character I hate for the most part a little more than I did before. Thank you once again, Jay! Thank you for another fantastic reaction to an amazing episode that I enjoy a lot in spite of its flaws and storylines I might not care about, as much as the rest that I really love. And now... I can't wait for your reaction for the next episode, because it's the first of my favorite episodes within this Underworld arc!! I love it!!! So, until then... Thank you, dear friend!! Sincerely, Heidi
