So... I was wrong about the pattern apparently. As much as I loved that episode it was really sad! Although just like every AwaE episode, it's not all happ or sad. You still get moments like Matthew with the baby (which I loved), Anne saying she's gonna take Delphine under her wing and teach her all Mary's recipes, and of course the hug scene with her and Gilbert (which everyone's been hoping for a sweet scene with them, just not under these circumstances). I agree this kind of seemed out of nowhere, I don't think Mary was in the books, which means she didn't have to die. Also, I loved the ending scene, with the song, and then Marilla finishing the prayer. They do amazingly sweet scenes in the middle of really sad storylines, and I think that's part of why I love this show. Also, when Bash is talking about making the kite, they say it's going to look like the sun when it's flying, and then at the very end, you can see the kite flying out of the sun, which I thought was a pretty cool detail.
