Irina’s dead body hit the floor with a wet thud and with it came a deathly silence.

It wasn’t out of respect for the fallen combatant nor a collective sense of awe, but due to a suffocating sense of dread instead. Irina, the former champion of the bloody tournament was finally dead and in her place rose a new apex predator, for it takes a monster to kill a monster.

Her name was Nyx*, known as the Night Queen, and although La Cova did not know her yet they soon would come to fear her just as much as the former champion. If not more.

Sadie sucked on her teeth thoughtfully. Having someone else off her target right in front of her eyes was rather inconvenient. But the fact that the elusive Rook Company was willing to take extreme measures to remove Irina from play meant that the Agency was on the right track for once – someone had sent Nyx tie up loose ends, making her the new lead to follow now.

Fortunately for Sadie, she was next in line to fight in the arena.
