[Government Palace – Underground Holding Facility]

Maya and Luna were running. The sound of the red alert muffling their footsteps as they navigated the network of underground tunnels. “Turn left, here.” said a digitized voice in their earbuds. So they did.

“Stop. Ambush ahead.” Continued the voice, and the girls came to a stop at the next corner. Shoulders pressed against the wall, rifle close to her chests - pointed down. Maya leaned in, senses sharp.

Someone barked an order, metal scraped across the concrete floor and weapons were cocked. Tilting her head back to Luna, Maya whispered. “Two shields. Three AKs. Go.”

Without missing a beat Luna came around the corner with a knee-slide, spraying fire in the general direction of the blockade. The reckless move confused the defenders who opened fire blindly from behind their shields.

Good enough for Maya, who swung out, slow, steady and deadly. One. Two. Three, pulls of the trigger and the hallway went quiet as the guards hit the floor.

“Congratulations! You made it.” The digital voice chirped again, prompting the girls to take a defensive stance on either side of the door. The glass was dirty, but through the muck and grime they could easily recognize Sadie.

With her finger on transmit, Maya reached out to their contact. “Thank you, what’s the exit pla …” But she didn’t get to finish. “Mom is here. Visage, out.” Quipped the digital voice one last time before the connection was dropped.

“… OK.” muttered Maya confused, getting her bearings once more. “Luna, clear the …”

But Luna was already kicking her way into the cell. Side arm at the ready, checking those corners as she called out. “Sadie!”

“O… K… Let’s everyone just do whatever.” Complained Maya, breathing out the rage and backing into the cell as she scanned the hallway for possible hostiles.

Suddenly, a commanding female voice comes through their comms. “Mama-Bear to Strike-Force-One, report.”

“Strike-Force-One to Mama-Bear. We secured Strike-Force-Two-One.” Replied Maya as she took a moment to assess the situation.

Sadie was on her knees. Arms chained to the ceiling. Head hanging low between her arms. Her body: naked, bruised and exhausted - but alive. There were two other women on the floor and one of them had her head trapped firmly between Sadie’s ass and feet.

“She’ll make it.” Continued Maya, as Luna rushed to release Sadie. “It looks like she took care of her interrogators herself.”

“Rook Company agents? Can we move them?” asked Madam Z.

Quickly checking their pulse, Luna hand signals to Maya. “Negative Mama-Bear. One KIA, the other one is unconscious. We can only carry our VIP out, and we definitely need a better extraction plan.”

“The mob is about to breach the palace gates. Take photos for TAC-OPS and make your way to the ceiling. Double time. We got a helo and strike-drone support inbound.”

“What about Strike-Force-Two-Two? What about … Baram?” asked Maya concerned.

“One step at a time. Get the hell out of there now!” ordered Madam Z

“Copy that Mama-Bear. Strike-Force-One, out.” Acknowledged Maya as she lifted Sadie onto her shoulders.

“C’mon big girl, we are going home.” She whispered to Sadie, gently and motherly.

“Why you … took so long?” muttered Sadie, barely audibly. “Bitches.”

Maya chuckled and smiled. “Oh yeah, she’s fine. Luna, take point. Time to GTFO.”

Gunshots could be heard echoing down the hallways. The sound of boots. An explosion. The situation in the Republic of Esperança had officially reached boiling point and the Government Palace was collapsing, both figuratively and literally.

With Luna on point, the agents made their way out of the holding facility. Determined to avoid the fate of this god forsaken place. Hoping that somewhere out there, Baram was doing better than they were.
