A little while back I got a bee in my bonnet over just how long it had been since I'd last taken a full-throated attempt at making roof textures (if you're curious, it was the "wooden roofs" pack released in April of 2020, almost four years ago). In light of that "fun" fact, I desperately felt we needed more!

Thus, Roofing Assets 1. Rather than tack individual styles onto other thematic packs, I wanted to start a line of assets that was dedicated solely to roofs alone. This would allow me the space to invest specifically into them in a way that would do the need justice, particularly for an asset style so universally used. Because buildings are obviously a fair bit larger than your average asset size and because I made so many of them, they ended up needing to be broken up a fair bit for patreon hosting. Roof Assets 1 includes:

  • 3 new roofing styles: Clay Shingle 1, Wooden Shingle 1, and Slate Shingle 1.
  • Each roofing style arrives in default rectangle shapes of various sizes totaling up to somewhere between 50-60 each
  • As in the very original roofs I made, these also arrive with "extension roofs" , "windows roofs" (aka dormers), and slanted roofs you can use in combination with those default roof shapes to customize at will.
  • Each roofing style also arrives with circular (or at least, octagonal) roofs of various sizes, which I also chopped up into 1/2 and 1/4 sections for use as needed.
  • There is also a "roof workshop" folder containing all of the wooden "hips" used in the slanted roofs, seamless edging paths for the Clay and Wooden Shingle varieties, similar paths for the roofs' ridges, and seamless tile sets for each texture type.
  • And as you'll see previewed above, a 22x34 square "example" map of an urban neighborhood showing off the combined effect of these roofs in a busy city scene.

Dungeondraft

The Dungeondraft-ready conversion of Roof Assets 1 firstly contains all 3 roofing styles as native options within DD's actual roof tool, offering a great deal of utility. Because of the way that tool behaves however, its default usage will result in roofing edges that are straight and uniform, unlike how their assets appear in the default ZIP package. If you'd like that extra detail, I've also included seamless edges for the clay and wooden tile roofing so you can add it by hand.

That said, you will still find ALL the assets for the pack available as objects themselves, should you wish to use my premade ones or assemble the buildings by stacking their disparate parts rather than make use of the roof tool.

This is such a MASSIVE improvement over the previous (which I used quite often) that I now want to go back and swap them. :-P Well done!
