Hello all!

I'm currently in development of a second edition to the original river assets as they were one of the more requested sets in our annual patron survey. I've got a few ideas for them in the works (see: drawable rivers in Dungeondraft), but as I've done several times in the past I wanted to come to you all as well during this process to make sure I'm not leaving anything out!

Right now I've got in my list:

  • Several varieties/sizes of rivers
  • An array of "ripples" that can be placed underneath other assets to make them appear floating in the water
  • Waterfalls
  • Rapids
  • Other bridges and/or river boats perhaps?

If you have other ideas or suggestions of things you'd like to see in the pack, now's the time to let me know and comment below! Thanks in advance!

maybe some signs of life. i.e washing pools, fish traps (stone traps and wicker traps etc) or even set lines or nets. then there's canoes, stepping stones, rock dams, a beaver dam, simple rope crossing. I personally like things where i can add some flavour.. i.e a dice roll with even just comical side effects. i.e you fall in.. i believe it makes the player experience immersion. then there's river critters. birds, reptiles, otters, mink. something so its not just a lifeless map.

What I'd really like to see is whirlpools. 4 or 5 sizes that could be overlaid on base water/river assets. As well with the rapids a couple of completed runs would be fine, but having a number of single/double rocks with the surrounding white water that could then be combined into a custom run would be great.

Whirlpools I get--trying to understand the rocks bit: are you imagining just being able to overlay a row of rocks and have white water beneath/around them?

As for the rocks, kind of. Like your rocks in the water with ripples around them, except the water is more violent in nature and you then fade it as it gets further from the rock/s. Here's an example. https://coolwallpapers.me/picsup/3092045-close-up-view-of-rapids.jpg If you look at the bottom two rocks you can see how the water plunges down between them creating the froth, but above the rock it's more ripply. Well if it was like that below the lower rock as well and there were a few variations we could use those to add to your larger rapids, or create smaller custom ones.

Maybe something like little treasures underneath? Like different little shiny underwater objects (coins, tools, weapons, lockets, chests!)? Or a way to make those, at least! Stuff like water overlays to DIY that sort of thing could work, since it would be a lot more versatile than having to do every item yourself. Dunno how that would work though LOL

I'd love to see structures associated with rivers, i.e. waterwheels, dams, piers, various styles of bridge (including simple rope and plank bridges). Things that you'd see alongside a village or town that has a river running through it. Thanks!

plants/animals appropriate for smaller stream and river life - individual assets and also maybe a few premade groups. It's super easy to find assets for a coral reef and sharks - but what about a little group of turtles at a fishing pond? a duck nest, a momma duck and ducklings around her in the water? an obnoxious goose. small froggies and some pond scum. laundry equipment and materials would be very appreciated: washboard, wooden basins with soap suds, clean clothes laid on sunny rocks to dry, etc. other "local" water activities include digging clay, gathering reeds and weaving baskets, or using river rocks to craft lithic tools (mortars & pestles, grinding stones of all types, arrowheads, etc) along similar lines - bridges are very nice, but not every water crossing has the resources or need for a larger construction (or the means to keep it in good repair) . . . water crossings at creeks, streams, and smaller rivers can be extremely dangerous on foot (as many tend to underestimate the force of even shallow flowing water) - and especially in the early spring. I'd like some assets to illustrate a waterway swollen with snowmelt, and waterlines to suggest where the lowest and highest water levels usually are. Also, assets for modular stepping stones, streambed shallows where everybody fords, a handline or line for a small raft-type ferry, crossing hazards like brush and logjams mid-stream. if y'all are unfamiliar with what a natural or "wild" water crossing can be like, here's a basic but decent "how-to" that might help envision the environment and various elements to consider to make the scene "real" https://www.trailspace.com/articles/how-to-cross-streams.html ps - seriously, don't forget about assets for that swimmin' hole or fishin' pond.

I would like to see some water flowers, swimming broken trees and driftwood; also some of the animals on top like ducks, goose, beaver and additional swans, fishes which are jumping (salmon, Koi and others), bear hunting fishes, different sizes of rafts, houseboats, swimming boxes and barrels, small paperships and people swimming in the water. Also I would appreciate a number of different pier which can belong to houses close by with small canoes and trading winches.
