Hey folks! So in the most recent asset theme poll you all opted for the Feywild to be our thematic focus for the next public assets pack.

Since then I've been doing a bit of research on my own, knowing that the Feywild has a bit more of a specific context and understanding to it within D&D that makes it different to approach than something more broad like 'Forests' or 'Caves'. This 'workshop' post if you're not familiar, is your opportunity to throw your own ideas, requests, and suggestions into the mix! I pride myself on trying to integrate feedback from you all into these packs as they're being made, which helpfully always makes them better than if I were to try and come up with it all on my own.

That said, based on some research and as a DM that was not super-experienced with the Feywild previously, here are some of the broader strokes in regards to what I plan to include in the Feywild Assets:

  • 1 new grass texture
  • 20+ new trees as well as some existing ones, all in otherworldly feywild color palettes (as well as the standard green(s) for utility's sake)
  • A new selection of more exotic, in some cases even 'alien' fauna (any specific requests?)
  • Various lighting effects (soft glows, spheres of light, faeries?)
  • 2-3 new larger bodies of water (perhaps a full-page glade and a waterfall)
  • Lily pads and other water-based plant life
  • Piles of leaves and possibly sections of moss to drop onto other existing assets? (think like the snow piles from the Winter Assets)

Typing that all out it already seems like a lot for one pack, but I shall not be intimidated! Let me know what odd, fun, quirky ideas you may have in mind for the Feywild assets--this is a fun opportunity to include strange pieces that may have a harder time fitting into the themes of other packs!

In my homebrew world, the Feywild is entirely on branches and inside the trunks of miles-tall trees that have no base or top. I know not everyone's Feywild is like that, but I think anyone could use treehouses, battle maps on large branches, and hollow tree trunks in their Feywild or elven villages. I've used maps like those in the link below before, but I'd love to have some in your style as well as branches, platforms, and props of various shapes to go along with them. https://www.google.com/search?q=tree+top+battle+map+dnd&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjJ8YC5xv_rAhUKTqwKHffzDy0Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=tree+top+battle+map+dnd&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQA1AAWABgpSVoAHAAeACAAQCIAQCSAQCYAQCqAQtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZw&sclient=img&ei=CGRrX8nNFIqcsQX357_oAg&bih=578&biw=1280

Clouds of spores, giant colorful mushrooms (different from cave assets), footprints of colorful light that could indicate a passing fey. The ideas you have already sound great, by the way.

Tree houses, mushroom houses, soft lights in different colors like purples, yellows, greens and blues are nice. Wood baskets, or things that can be made with nature (acorn bowl or stuff like that), leaf boats, skinny twigs and sticks are some ideas. I'm just throwing something out there. I like your ideas too though.

I like the idea of the feywild having some areas of dense pearlescent mist, so I would like to see some sort of misty overlay

I'd like to see some colorful crystal stuff. From the DM Guide, "Where a volcano stands on the Material Plane, a mountain topped with skyscraper-sized crystals that glow with internal fire towers in the Feywild." So just crystalize anything, crystal trees and flowers or just crystals growing inside them. Pillars and columns of crystals fallen down as ruins. Crystal ponds and rivers. You know, crystals.

Feywild is a great idea. I'd like to propose some items, that I believe are staples of fantasy Fey Realms: - Fluorescent Exotic fields of Mushrooms, - Fluorescent Exotic fields of Flowers, - Mushroom Houses, - Flower Houses, - Tree Houses, - Swarms of glow-worms, - Exotic vines in form of obstacles, - Plant Bridges. I believe there is no need for more generic trees in different colors though, any of things mentioned above could replace those. I'd also suggest looking at Alice in Wonderland for inspiration.

Clusters of flowers is a great idea, should have thought of that already. And plant bridge is also great! Both should be doable for this 👍

I'm sure some of these have already been suggested, but here goes: - Rope/Root Bridges - Glowing variants of plants/flowers/trees/leaves - Fallen trees both with and without mushrooms sprouting from them - Maybe mushroom houses for small fey to live in?

Just something I haven't seen yet is having a varied color palette for the feywilds as they are incredibly colorful or bleak places. Having assets that range from being like pastels to then deep violets or even purples would be a beautiful way to add more variety to this. Also, beyond that, looking at different genera of fungi would be super helpful as they all grow in such different ways in the same area (from wood-decay fungi like the Dead Man's Fingers, to Inky Caps that disintegrate in a few days and form a sharp black muck) would be a great way to spice up any individual map. The other ideas suggested are great like having a spore cloud, could come up from a puffball fungus that can change color depending on the variant terrain (super cool little fungi and it can grow to be as big as my PI's upper body lol)

I'm so very excited for this to be done! This Feywild entrance is breathtaking and I'd love to go see it for myself. Wait, I can, I'll just write up a story! Can't wait.

I recommend also re-watching 'Avatar' for inspiration, a lot of really great stuff there!
