Hello all!

Per last week's asset pack poll it appears that I'll be working on some Underdark Assets for the next public assets pack. So as I've gotten into the habit of doing when beginning new projects, I thought I'd open up an opportunity for you all to provide some suggestions in regards to what that should entail!

Here is a brief list of what I intend to create/include:

  • A new set of tiles to match those of the previous Cave Assets pack, will include in a color variant for a darker, more violet tone (what formations are still in need here?)
  • A seamless lava texture to be used with tiles as well as a standard 8.5x11 version
  • Various fungi to scatter about
  • Different gems/ores embedded in rocks, possibly some crystals
  • Various webbing to indicate spiders, dryders, etc.

Please let me know other things you think should be included! Even if they're larger in scope I can still take note of them and add them to my list of future booster packs (e.g. drow architecture, myconid village shrooms, etc.)

Oooooo 😍 tree roots maybe? Or like vines? So excited!

Larger fungi assets to create a myconid/fungal forest? Duegar brutalism architecture as well as drow buildings?

Malcolm Wolter

Clusters of stalagmites ("faerie gardens"), dark pools of various sizes and shapes, clusters of glowing crystals in multiple hues.

Perhaps a grime like workshop visuals like 5 modular pieces we can smash together for variety?

Grygon

Only tangentially related, but do you have thoughts/plans on making your asset packs to support DungeonDraft? Could be something worth thinking about for future packs if not, it's an awesome tool that I'm using to build maps from all the assets I've collected, but it's a pain to import the assets myself! https://github.com/Megasploot/Dungeondraft/wiki/Custom-Assets-Guide

Cooking fires; straw for bedding; animal bones (food!), bedrolls, animal skins; pottery; piles of wood for cooking fires; old rugs; different colored waters (clean, diseased etc); planking for impromptu bridges; torches/light sources; crates and boxes of stolen goods from the surface or underdark trade goods; graffiti/runes/magic circles; blood stains; cave-centric traps; tiles to make multi-level rooms or stairways...thanks...

Creature remains, mind flayer props (brains in jars, ceremorphosis pools, elderbrain pool, buildings, etc.), buildings and bridges made out of fungi and/or stalagmites and/or creature bits, purple worm tunnels, subterranean rivers/lakes/waterfalls, subterranean boats (again made out of fungi and/or creature bits)

Wow, a lot of great suggestions so far. How about a few large see thru mushrooms like you did with the trees? I can envision a large two layer cavern with the top part being the tops of large mushrooms and the bottom part being the ground under them.

These are really good greg! However I feel that they may begin to constitute their own pack, a 'dungeoneering assets pack' perhaps?

Don't really have any plans for DungeonDraft specifically--as PNG files what exactly is it that makes them difficult to import?

Grygon

That's fair, probably a bunch of extra work. You can't use PNGs directly for everything, object assets work OK with some minimal work, but they'd lose some functionality (like tagging, which is nice). Just figured I'd ask in case you had plans before I started putting the work into converting them for myself!

Mind flayers and their slave pens/ slave creatures! fencing, plateaus with steep cliff edges! Also the drow city walls and rocks should have swirly decorative (but magic looking) engravings that glow purple/red if I remember correctly :)

Yea similar to like a underdark themed smithy setup, or with the lava a fire giants arrangement of production line?

Anonymous

Yeah, I guess I'm asking for the details I can add to caverns or dungeons to customize them

i whould very much like a tile that has a stream of water in it (or even better just a empty river and we can put water or lava in there)
