Hello all!

I'd been wanting to make a little bit of a return for the next couple of battle maps to themes, premises, and locations that fit more comfortably into the theme of 'universally applicable, but still interesting looking'. I.E. wide-purpose maps that a higher number of you would be able to find use for in your campaigns.

And therefore, Ulthuk's Last Stand! This battle map corresponds with a location by the same name from the Barinthus Basin province released in December 2017, one of the regions that makes up the homebrew setting I've used in campaigns prior. In the lore of our setting what you see before you is the crumbled roof of a tower that was built to guard against approaching forces and monsters flowing into the valley from the wastelands beyond the Graven Hills. During a series of violent wars between the humanoid denizens of the valley and aforementioned monsters the commanding general of the tower, an unwieldly human known as Ulthuk, fell in a dramatic battle by which those encroaching forces spread into that end of the valley for a period of time.

But for you? It can be any sort of wonderful, drama-enhancing ruin you could need as a backdrop for your encounter of preference. As you can see, there is a wide (but rundown) staircase leading into the lower floor(s) of the tower by which this rooftop is primarily accessed. In addition there are a few other vertical tiers that may come into play beyond the primarily open, circular 'arena'; the broken spires above lead to large, eroded rock pillars that could be climbed, whereas a few grassy plateaus line the outer edges of the tower should any combatants be flung from the fight.

Those of you that are especially big Tolkien fans may notice strong similarities between this battle map and the location known as Weathertop from the Lord of the Rings as it was a strong source of inspiration here.

Enjoy! Inside the pack you'll find a few variations of the image above, a printable PDF, and a separated PNG asset of the tower by itself.

"...to themes, premises, and locations that fit more comfortably into the theme of 'universally applicable, but still interesting looking'. " "...and a separated PNG asset of the tower by itself." Thank you, thank you, thank you! Having it separate is a huge help for VTT use. So much easier to to make a large outdoor map featuring it and not have to try and match/obscure the border of the regular images with background.
