Black Lives Matter (Patreon)

I don't usually like to use this platform for political messages, but I don't feel like I can stay silent on this issue. In any case, I don't think saying that black lives matter should be political -- it should be as politically transcendent a statement as 'Hope Rises' or 'Love Conquers All'.
I'm pretty far from perfect, but I recognise that white privilege is real and that whether I want to or not, I have benefited from it. I live in a world where I instinctively know that I will not be murdered by a police officer for a minor breach of the law. The inequality of quality of life for white and black people is fucked up, and I feel it is encumbent on all white people to at least acknowledge this.
Anyway-- the art! I wanted to draw a POC character who rocks my world and that is definitely Monica Rambeau-- Captain Marvel. My first ever Marvel superhero comic was an issue of Secret Wars, in which Monica and damn near every other hero in the Marvel Universe featured. Back then, Monica was the new face of Captain Marvel, but because she was the first iteration of the character I encountered she remains in my mind the original and best version of the character. Her powers and costume are really cool. In drawing her, I dug out my copy of her first appearence way back in Amazing Spider-Man Annual 16 from 1982. The attractive retro linework of John Romita's Snr and Jr made me want to Kirby the shit out of this image-- which I did.
