Hey there! Thank you for being a Patron! Here's the full reaction to RICHARD 3!

This is a Level 5 Patreon Tier Movie Request from Ryan!

Okay so, first and foremost I wanna apologize because I truly don't think this is my best reaction, only because I was honestly very lost in the first 30 minutes and also during other parts a bit as well, but I'm chalking it up to me just being thrown off by how Shakespearean speak they were using and whatnot. But by the end of it when I understood everything and all was said and done, I thought it was definitely an entertaining time and I did enjoy it overall.

So because I just don't feel the best about this, I'm gonna pause on putting this one on YouTube for right now, but there will still be a video tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think of this. Maybe I'm beating myself up, but I just truly don't wanna put out things I don't feel 100% on :(

NOTE: You follow along with your own copy of the movie; I have a little timer right at the beginning where it counts down and shows the word "play" when I myself start playing the movie. I also have a timer synced throughout the movie so you're also in sync the whole time! If you don't have your own copy, then you'll have pretty much no idea what's happening!

Seeing your confusion at the setting, it's part of Ian McKellan's lifelong attempts to make Shakespeare plays more accessible to modern audiences, and in this one he decided to use a period of more recent history that the story of Richard III could easily fit into. In 1936, when divorce was considered a much bigger deal than it is now, King Edward VIII was forced to give up the crown after less than a year due to his insistence on marrying the twice-divorced Wallis Simpson. This was initially seen as an incredibly romantic story, but before long it was discovered that he and Wallis were both firmly allied with the Nazis, so that now it's an unsettling story of what a huge bullet the whole world dodged that Edward wasn't in power when World War II started, as he could well have kept England out of the war entirely and caused a full Nazi victory. And so, here we have Richard and the rest of his family transplanted into that 1930s setting, causing him to become distinctly Nazi-esque as he grabs more and more power.

After finishing this one, I can now definitively say I’m perfectly happy with how it turned out.
