Hey there! Thank you for being a Patron! Here's the full reaction to SICARIO!

This is a Level 5 Patreon Tier Movie Request from Ian Forbes!

WHEWWWWW what an intense film this was. It felt documentary-like in a way, and it absolutely felt like you were watching everything unfold in real time right in front of your eyes! Beautifully executed, really well done overall, and I enjoyed myself!

NOTE: You follow along with your own copy of the movie; I have a little timer right at the beginning where it counts down and shows the word "play" when I myself start playing the movie. I also have a timer synced throughout the movie so you're also in sync the whole time! If you don't have your own copy, then you'll have pretty much no idea what's happening!

Love this one. Definitely one of my favorites from the past ten years. I still remember when I watched this for the first time. I was recovering from a broken leg at the time, and I remember liking it so much that I wanted to watch it again as soon as it was over. Very rare for me to feel that way about a movie. I love the atmosphere and that haunting bass soundtrack. I know what you mean about it taking its time to unfold. There is a realism to this film that you don't often see. No snarky one-liners, no cheesy cliches--just a hard-hitting look at the horrors of the drug trade and the shadow government agencies that collide with it. Benicio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Josh Brolin all give fantastic performances. Del Toro's Alejandro is one of the most intimidating characters ever put to film. He's the embodiment of Nietzsche's warning: “if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.” It was clear by the end that the cartel had taken more from him than his wife and daughter, they had also taken his soul. His lust for revenge had turned him into the very monster he fought against. Brolin's portrayal of the cocky CIA guy was just perfect. I've never (knowingly) met a high-level CIA operative, but I imagine if I had he'd be a lot like Brolin's character here: arrogant and obnoxiously self-righteous. Blunt, too, plays her role with excellence. I usually don't like female leads in these kinds of roles simply because they tend to be written and played as one-dimensional "generic female badass 101" cliches. Thankfully, Blunt and the writers avoid that common pitfall. Kate Macer is a very skilled and capable FBI agent with a strong moral core who finds herself in way over her head and very nearly gets herself killed numerous times in the process but survives and perseveres out of sheer will. She's a real person, with both strengths and weaknesses, and not a dumb Hollywood stereotype. If you're looking for another great Denis Villeneuve-directed film, check out his 2013 "Prisoners." Not quite as good as Sicario in my opinion, and I'm not the biggest fan of the ending, but it's a very well-made intense drama with brilliant performances by both Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal. Great reaction.
