This was definitely one of the best sequels to a movie you could ask for! Super well done, the aliens looked insane, story flowed well, and it was ACTION PACKED! Definitely understand why so many of y'all say it's even better than the first one! I enjoyed myself a lot with this one.

Theres a really interesting documentary available on YouTube about the making of this. How troubled the set was. Cameron firing an English upper crew person which cause most of his British film crew to basically go on strike until it was fixed. Cameron's insane need for perfection driving everyone else crazy. James Remar recast with Michael Biehn during shooting because of his drug/alcohol problem. So on and so forth.

To sort of answer your question about how long they sleep. The script and the novelization both agree: it take Three Weeks to travel from Gateway Station Earth to LV-426 on the Sulaco. Remember that the Sulaco is a military ship on a rescue mission and is probably faster then Ripley's first ship Nostromo, and after they had taken off from LV-426 they had damage and used up a lot of fuel so the course and speed to compensate was going to take Ten Months and they all grumbled about it. As to why sleep for that period. it would come down to carrying supplies, sleeping personnel don't eat or drink cutting down on what had to be stored for the crew.
