Let's do a deep dive on the 2005 bestseller Confessions of a Video Vixen, and by extension, the sexuality and politics surrounding black women who perform and/or monetize sex. Karrine Steffans was a brave and flawed woman-- and many of the reactions to her book were riddled with hypocrisy (and if you were anything like me, such hypocrisy will teleport you straight back to middle school).  In this episode of Celebritea, I'll be discussing the book, the 2000s phenomenon of video girls, misogyny in hip hop, the audacity of rapists like Charlamagne the God to pass judgment, the very fine line between video vixens and sex workers, and more! This was fun to make. More new videos coming in July <3

I remember that Tyra interview omg. Has Tyra ever apologized for the way she treated the women who came on her show? And yeah, even with how bad IG is now, I wouldn't wish the slut-shaming, heroin chic early 2000s on any young person.

Buffie the Body had a small clip in ATL. That’s the only movie I saw her in.
