Balor test printing (Patreon)

Here is a shot of the Balor test print so far.

No wings on it yet. Printed one of the wings and it came out well. 

Had a problem with the Axe though. Printer got a blockage, but it waited until it was 98% done :D Having a look at how it printed I have decided to do a version where the axe will be split in two and I have added some more detail to the shaft to improve the strength of the print when done on a fdm printer. 

Printed on a flashforge finder at 0.1 layer height.

Maybe it's worth changing the grip that axe can be put in hands "on demand"? Or some later update could include banner or bastard sword?

I got an Anycubic Photon coming in 2 weeks... A full Balor model might be perfect first print for it.

Hey I was just wondering about print orientation. Are your files in the orientation you think is best for printing or is it random?

What do you think to making a Spectator? A smaller beholder with 4 eyes like in the MM page 30, the tongue could be used as the base

Haha I realised that after I asked. Those beholders were in the first package I had when I started so I must have missed them initially

It takes longer and it can be tricky working out the best way to key them for easy printing. For example because this one is so big I have had to split each wing in two and then do a version where I have pre added supports to help with fdm printing. That took a while to get the joints as seamless as possible and then add the supports to get the best possible results from the print. Been lots of fun though.

They can come in to the slicer you are using at a different angle so I would always orientate the print so the big flat area will sit on the print bed. I try to slice them so it's pretty easy to see which bit should be on the print bed. Feel free to message me though if you have problems.

Any chance in seeing an alternate weapons loadout for the Balor? Maybe a big axe and a whip?
