Once painted I will need to work out how to suspend a red light in the center of the eye hole. Maybe a clear resin insert painted in the middle...

What if you hallow it out and splice it in half before printing, add LED wiring, perhaps even have it go through the base, and hallow out the bottom of the base where you can have the battery. Then glue it all together.

Not a bad idea, maybe separate it at the jaw and hollow the top section so the led can go straight in. I like your style.
