I think this is the 5th-ish post? Anyway, the character movement is 99% done, I did notice the balls on the firey boy animated a bit weird 0929, but everything else I'm pretty happy with. I animated his right foot a lot, fixed a couple things here and there, various polish things. Still a few semi-rough spots, but I think it's good enough to start focusing on finishing touches- soft bodies and fluids!

I want to talk about that couch because there's a lot going on.

The couch itself is a pretty dense mesh. Using that as the mesh that gets interacted with would be very slow (and it was! I tried that in the beginning). Only part of the couch needs to be reactive to other meshes, so I created a lower detail proxy mesh.

The imp is a complicated shape, and due to how shrink wrapping geometry works, it's quite poppy and awful. The object that's actually influence anything on the couch proxy is an engorged, remeshed version of the imp's body:

The final effect is this deformation on the proxy- a combination of shrink wrapping as well as an armature for more major deformation.

The couch's armature- it also reacts to the imp's armature. His hip root bone, which is theoretically the center of gravity/mass would be on him, moves around some of these bones.

Additionally, there's one more proxy mesh for the imp's balls' shrink wrap constraints:

This is what I was using. But it occurred to me I could get better results possibly by shrink wrapping some of this mesh to the couch's actual mesh! Take a look:

The end result is something quite smooth, but it follows the couch's shape a lot more closely. Though this didn't really matter much since you don't see his nuts that much... But, it does work nicely.

This is the actual couch before and after:

Notice some weird poking through geometry- however, that doesn't matter much because the imp's body covers it.

Here's a gif that visualizes all the steps that lead to a couch that deforms with the character's body:

I know I always say this but the work that goes into all this is so satisfying to read about....
