After many attempts at trying to figure something out... I looked at the screen shot of the background with the (now incorrectly colored) main character- the first screen with this kind of painterly-ish style and thought "You know, that doesn't look too bad."

So I tried painting this, it's been killing me how I want to frame this screen- well I knew how I wanted to have it look(meat wall in the back, fire exit to left and a hint of an aisle to the right) but figuring out the perspective was giving me some trouble.

Since I'm a okay at a bit of everything, I did what I usually do now when I can't be bothered to draw a million orthogonal lines. Try making it in Blender.

Here's the process for this particular screen. Placeholder:

3d help:

Originally I wanted to model it, texture it and just touch it up. But as you can see I ended up just painting over it completely since, frankly, there's not much of a point texturing and modeling this entire scene when really were not going to see a lot of the store.

I also have been trying to get an idea of how I want character lines to look. I think they're decent in the original style mock up- this one:

But one thing I dislike is I lack exact control over lines. With Gator or Zebra, where everything has a 1 pixel thick line(and 640x480 res) I feel a lot more comfortable with doing lines and touching them up, it makes more sense to me. With this, since it's a move to higher resolution, idk it's just really been difficult for me to be happy with character lines.

Which is why I've been trying out line work in Blender 2.8 using the grease pencil. After a lot of attempts, it has so much damn potential but I don't think it's the right fit for me yet. I'll probably continue to try getting used to it but I might just do everything in Photoshop as I've been doing.

That's all for now :3
