Hello! Hope everyone had a nice week,

In the past few days we have been doing a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to improving the game's performance as a whole and implementing more versatile customization systems! So lets get this on by introducing our newly updated eyes and irises:


 👁 New Eye Customization System 👁

In our efforts to improve and simplify our sprite import and rigging pipeline we have finally tackled this week our character's eyes and irises. Last month we've had great success when it came to hairs, to the point where we are now confident that creating an accessible modding api for them is possible, and we wanted to feel the same way about our eyes.

Up until now our eye sprites have been drawn at their final position on the face, which worked fine for a limited amount of alternatives but definitely was inefficient when it came to modding, because each eye needed to be sliced, rigged and animated separately, and sometimes tweaked once placed to avoid clipping.

In comparison, the new eyes are much simpler to setup, specially for future modders and artists that decide to import their own art into the game. New eyes are now created facing the front, and will be transformed by our animation system to fit their final position on the face automatically. Since they are created facing the front, artists will only need to create the eye for one side of the face, as the other will just be a flipped version of it, cutting workload in half. Below you can see some of the new eye types we are bringing into the game, and their resulting placement on the face! The red irises follow our coloring system, that uses the red channel to assign primary colors.

Once the new eyes are up, we are considering already working on providing people with a modding api so they can finally start importing their own art into the game! We will need to create some documentation to guide people through the process as well, but it should be simple enough. We know how dedicated modders can be when it comes to adding their favorite characters into games, so hopefully we can work together as well to improve our modding tools as time goes on.
