For those who haven't heard, Steam recently decided to enact a full ban on all adult games on Steam for users in Germany, thereby following the AgeID laws in Germany.

Now, for those of you who wanted to get the game on Steam that are from Germany, unfortunately, that means at at launch, you'll likely have to get it on one of the many other platforms we'll be putting the game on (and if you've pledged $20 on Patreon before launch, you'll be able to get a key on a platform of your choice!)

However, some time after launch, we do want to translate the game into German, and at that time, we'll apply for a rating by the USK (basically the ESRB but for Germans), which costs $1600+ per attempt (which is why we'd want to wait until we had a translation, as patches cost another $300 per patch).

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news like this, but at the very least German players will still be able to get it on other platforms.

And yes, the game will be completely the same across platforms!

the steam once again such a train makes me shit again. but I think it's cool that you want to translate it into German. ^^

Neraced

What platforms are you planning to release it on at the moment?

Germans may not be able to buy the game on steam in Germany anymore but maybe it is possible to still activate it!? Steam keys might still work.

I doubt that this game would get an USK 18 rating.

Currently i as someone from germany, is really at the point, where i would like to go to another country. There are more and more points to cry about and this is just another sad and silly thing (Steam).

FAKKU, GameJolt, Itch.io, Nutaku, MangaGamer, JAST, Denpasoft, DLSite, Mikandi, and dmm among others.

Yeah, I've heard a lot from other German devs, it seems to be really strict over there for how punishing it is for indie devs.

Hope

Couldn't you release a censored version and make a nsfw patch downloadable somewhere else?

Sadly I am not surprised to hear that. When it comes to art and especially independent artists Germany is not a good place to be in my opinion. Also, don't feel you should apologize. Not your fault our country is ruled by people who barely know what an e-mail is.

I don't think it is too much to ask that companies selling adult products make sure they are actually only selling it to adults.

That would require making a separate Steam store entry, which would then be confusing on the steam search and cause a massive amount of complications with a lot of things on there, unfortunately. (Steam doesn't make this stuff easy!) It's a lot easier for everyone involved if we just support German players on Itch/Gamejolt.

Hope

Fair enough. I learned that you can add blocked games on steam.db to your wishlist and buy it from there.
