Hey, so I got this exit message from someone leaving the patreon a few days ago (it's anonymous, so i have no idea who left it);

---------------------------------

"im now declining to support any more and will now with a half dozen of my friends choose to opt because of delaying releases times (around third time) . some donators had actually by this point of just donating 1 dollar have now successfully supported enough for your highest tier of award, others like me have now racked in your controbutions by the hundreds and are still looking to get the same reward/pleasure as those who donated once in the same tiers only. i will await the final game to be pushed out with the max rewards i was promised to be emailed. There had been tiers of goals that have been surpaased cumulative wise (if not monthly) to not be upheld."

---------------------------------

Just to be clear again for anyone who might have misunderstood (although this is all on the front page of the Patreon and has been for years);

There are no "cumulative" rewards besides getting the game at launch for $10 cumulatively pledged.

This is because the $30 tier costs money for us to make; in fact, it costs more than the $30 people pledge to it to record the voicework for it per databank (and if we make them an NPC, it costs even more than that).

For the $20 tiers, we pay 100% of the Voice Pack tier to the voice actress, and we pay 50% of the Soundtrack tier to the musician.

Additionally, if we did cumulative rewards for $10 and $30, there is a very high possibility we wouldn't be able to get everyone's name into the background or in a databank.

Making tier rewards cumulative would thus be a drain on resources far more than what we're already paying each month to commission SFX, voicework, music, etc. and thus development would actually slow down while we'd have to save up money to be able to pay said people.

To compensate for all of this, this is why we offer pledging once at a tier and getting that reward for life, never needing to pledge again; if we did cumulative rewards, we would need to raise tier amounts considerably to compensate for the above mentioned drain on resources.

Finally, if you haven't been emailed rewards and you're a new pledger or a past pledger, please email me and refer to this post; https://www.patreon.com/posts/26046414

I do posts like this monthly reminding people to check their emails for reward emails, in hopes that people won't miss out on them.

We really don't want people to miss out on their pledge rewards, nor do we want to have people feeling unhappy with the money they've contributed towards the game, so if you would like a refund for any reason, please let us know :)

(As a last note, I'm not sure what they mean about delaying the demo three times; the last three demos have all been on time within the time frame we announced them as?)

Expect some neat stuff in a post coming up soon!

>_> People are weird. I wouldn't worry about it! 1st rule of customer service is that people are wrong literally all the time and the 2nd is that if you try to please everyone you'll burn out. <3 Just keep doing what you're doing because Future Fragments is shaping up to be one of the top adult games!

Am just here

blokrokker

Wait wait wait, they thought that by donating, say, a dollar a month for ten months they got the $10 reward? That's not how Patreon works, that's never been how it's worked! This isn't Kickstarter!

Wow, and here I've been donating at a $20 tier for months just to support the game like some kind of plebian instead of making inane ultimatums. I really think I'm owed a Ferrari by now, you'll be hearing from my <strike>mom</strike> lawyer.

"To compensate for all of this, this is why we offer pledging once at a tier and getting that reward for life, never needing to pledge again; if we did cumulative rewards, we would need to raise tier amounts considerably to compensate for the above mentioned drain on resources." Am i misunderstanding this or am i just bad at english?

Can you pledge 50 once and get those rewards? Then what's the difference between pledging 50 once or 10 5 times?

Bo Blackstar

There's a huge difference. This is a long-running project, so anyone who has chipped in a dollar pledge for long enough would eventually wind up getting every reward, including the rewards that actually cost the developers money (like inclusion in the game in some form). If you really want to "game the system" you can pledge for a tier reward once, get it forever, and immediately drop your pledge back to $1 or cancel altogether. That option exists if that's your motivation for pledging. The point of the Patreon is to support the project over time. It's not a store, and it's not Kickstarter. As HW has pointed out, several of the reward tiers actually cost money or funnel that investment directly to a particular contributor.

I've been pledging $50 all the time and I don't regret it. I'm a patron, a donor, a supporter. This is what we do on Patreon. We aren't "customers".

I'm pledging $5 per month for the principle here. I want this type of instastudio designing niche games and whatnot, let them do it full time, not a hobby. I'm going to drop an extra $50 so I can get level editor :) but still pledging through the summer and release. You guys rock.

All that seems just, wow. These people seem to have made a grave misunderstanding within the system, it has been pretty clear how all this works. And as for refunds, I don't think that should really be a concern, we chose to support this, not buying a product. And sure I would like to see something come out of this, (which entirely has, this is one of the few things I love coming back to), you don't go in trying to cheat the benefits that have been clearly placed.

FutureFragments

To be fair, you *do* get the game at launch if you do that, but yeah, you wouldn't get the tier reward.

FutureFragments

Well it's much appreciated, but if you ever need to lower or stop your pledges that's perfectly fine; you'll still get the editor and game of course!

FutureFragments

The difference is that $50 as one pledge gets you the editor and the game; $10 5 times would get you the $10 tier reward (name in background) and the game, instead.

FutureFragments

Well thanks a lot, but if you ever need to lower or stop your pledges that's perfectly fine; you'll still get the editor and game of course!

FutureFragments

I'm not angry at them at all, of course, it just means we need to make it more clear, is all. We always offer refunds because sometimes people have bad things happen in their lives, accidents, health problems, unexpected debt, and we wouldn't want them to suffer in life because they supported us; we'd rather refund the money so they can keep their lives intact and such.
