He knows now that this pain means that he's about to deliver a child (or possibly multiple children), though he's still yet to understand how these children come to grow in his belly in the first place, and it's just as well that he has some idea of what to expect this time; his would-be lover is as disinterested in him as ever as soon he's got what he wanted.
