🗒️ | I had to make some floor count adjustments, which is why the Distributed count went down a bit. Additionally, the wheelchair seats in Section M are relatively new. I'm unsure if the rest of the section will end up being occupied despite not being listed, but we'll find out tonight. For now, it's not included in the estimate above since I never saw it fully open.
I've seen some comments suggesting they should open everything up for $20. Here's why that wouldn't be a great idea: they still have $24 seats available in Section C (far left), and plenty remain unsold. If those aren't selling (for just $4 more than what most have suggested), then how would the rest of the hard cam side sell? It wouldn't, unless it was even cheaper (maybe $10?). However, there are flaws with a super low price point approach too. This might not be a market where they exceed much beyond the current number of sales.
Lowering the price on the more expensive seats punishes those who bought tickets earlier in the process, which backfired last year, in my opinion. A few people in the ticket industry reached out to me at the time to explain what a bad precedent it sets. Many fans who bought tickets earlier for a significantly higher price were furious when they saw prices drop. Fans are now conditioned to wait until late to buy tickets, resulting in weaker advances across the board for them. At some point, you have to break that cycle and avoid dropping prices late.
Some have asked why they don't drop prices even more (and accused Tony Khan of being greedy), but the reality is there are significant flaws with that idea too, such as decreased perceived value, attracting a non-target audience, devaluing future events, and decreased profit margins. I'm not sure how much they've invested in local advertising lately, but that's an area they can certainly improve. They've definitely increased localized digital advertising in the past year. Beyond that, I'm not sure what else they can do other than getting talent to engage in as much local media as possible (which they do for the bigger markets).
