Shape of Water is such an amazing retelling of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Using the Creature as a focus as the 'other' in the same way that other characters in the film are seen as is great. Because that's how a lot of us feel - we see these 'hideous monsters' on screen and instead of being scared, all we can feel is empathy; is sadness. It's such a dark and romantic modern fairy tale. I just really, really love Guillermo Del Toro's work. He never misses.
