Sarah Michelle Gellar actually was supposed to have more screen time, but due to her rigorous Buffy schedule, she wasn't able to (I honestly think that was partially why she decided to pull the plug on Buffy after season 7 when her contract came up because it was interfering heavily on her film career, at the peak of her popularity at that, and missed out on a lot of roles because of it). She loved the first film and said knew she had to get into the sequel somehow, and being an already a popular 90s teen actress just started staring in her own series (Buffy season 2 episode 11, "Ted", has just aired a week prior to Scream 2's theater release to give JV context lol), and just starred in "I Know What You Did Last Summer", which was just released just a couple of months prior to Scream 2 (both IKWYDLS & most of the Screams films were written by the same person), it was no brainer lol. Throw in her being the lead in popular horror remake "The Grudge" that released in 2004, Sarah Michelle Gellar became, if not THE, one of the most popular Scream Queens of the 90s and early-mid 00s, alongside Neve Campbell (& maybe Jennifer Love Hewitt)...

OK, you guys talk about loving the movie for its celebrities and how it keeps you guessing. If you like that, you gotta check out Knives Out. Not a horror, it's a murder mystery, and it's SO clever. Also, Hereditary. It's a damn good movie, but it's a lot more emotional than the horror movies you've seen so far. Both it and Midsommar (same director) deal with some deeply intense subject matter. If you feel the need to build your "horror palette" up a little bit, that's 120% fine.
