Aw heck yeah Can't wait to watch this! Eeeeyyyyy nice on getting Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's cameo! Few reactions I've seen have gotten that. The girl with the heart transplant didn't die, FYI. Edit: Welp. Sorry to hear you didn't like it as much. I guess not every film is a winner, which is fair, and yeah a lot of the jokes are a bit darker in hindsight. I always gave it a pass because it treated all its subjects really silly, but I can see how someone could be turned off by it. The one thing about this movie is that there are a LOT of jokes in it - enough that you could easily still miss some even on your second and third rewatches. I think too many people were focused on the puns and wordplay Naked Gun had, and while this certainly has them, it's not as many as you'd assume. That all said, even if you didn't like it, that still helps us narrow your type of comedy down further. Definitely going to let Jane pick the next one.

Guys, I was curious to see what you would make of this ancient comedy, but Iโ€™m afraid youโ€™re too young to pick up on all the references to other movies and events current at the time it was made. Airplane! is a spoof of disaster movies which were very popular during the seventies, particularly a series of movies with the word Airport in their title. Some scenes are parodies of famous scenes from earlier, well-known movies like From Here to Eternity, Saturday Night Fever, the Singing Nun, Zero Hour, and many others. Another aspect of its humor was having well-known, serious dramatic actors playing farce. Thereโ€™s no way you could know the white woman who spoke jive to the black passengers was an actress who played the proper 1950s mother on the popular TV show Leave it to Beaver. Knowing who she is makes it funny. Same for Leslie Nielson, famous for playing very serious lawyers, doctors, and other professionals on TV. Have you seen the Back to the Future movies? I think you would both appreciate them.

Honestly I didn't know any of these references and I find Airplane hilarious. I think it was just a matter of tastes not aligning. Not to say you're completely wrong, the Barbara Billingsly gag is so much funnier with that context. But the jokes do stand on their own as well.
