Aliens is a fantastic follow up, and more action-oriented instead of horror like the first one I'll also throw Spaceballs into the suggestions - now that you've seen Alien and Star Wars, you'll get 90% of the references. Hilarious movie, could possibly make for a try not to laugh???

One last thing - I love that most people know about the chest burster scene from pop culture, which makes for the OTHER twist that Ash is an Android sabotaging them that much sweeter for first timers. That jump cut IS really bad, and could have easily been saved by putting a reaction shot of a crew member in between. That said, screens were VERY different back then - 1980's CRTs and theatres didn't have the 4k and brightly lit resolution we have now, so it allowed them to mask some of the tricks.

(Great reaction. I’d love to see your reaction to the sequel, “Aliens.) Random trivia: - There were three different exterior models of the Nostromo (towing ship) made, the largest was 11 feet long. - The upper decks of the Nostromo are white, the lower decks are dark. To save money, when building the lower deck sets, they cannibalised panels from the upper deck … just repainting them black and gold. The film crew carried extra cans of black and gold paint for touch-ups between takes. - The alien creature and alien ship designs were by this Swiss artist HR Giger. When they were building the interior set of the alien ship, he would sleep there to try and give himself nightmares that he could then use as further inspiration. - The membrane inside the alien egg is ‘Nottingham Lace’ (a cow’s stomach) that the film crew picked up from a butcher near the studio. It had to be collected fresh on the day of filming. - For the close-up of the dead facehugger, they made a latex shell and filled it with oysters and clams. - Sigourney Weaver was also in Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest. John Hurt was the War Doctor in Doctor Who. Ian Holm was Bilbo Baggins in the LotR movie, also Cornelius in the Fifth Element. The ‘actor’ who played the alien was just someone they found in a Soho pub who was tall (6’10”) and had “very long legs”; he was actually a graphic artist from Nigeria and this film is his only acting credit.
