I cant say anything about Lee cuz I dont wanna spoil anything ,but every character introduced in Naruto adds value to the show. They never introduce important characters and then just takes them away. They all add uniquely important value to the development of the story and are all connected to each other in some way. If anything, as the show goes on, you'll get to know each character on a deeper level while you continue to meet new characters. God this show is so amazing I can't even describe in words, so excited that you are getting in to it.

Give yourself the chance to enjoy Naruto in it's fullest, or watch the episodes you want. Do not let anyone else influence your viewing experience.
