Your take on Gaara and his uncle at the beginning was... interesting. Gaara wasn't psychotic before the murder attempt. Just like Naruto wasn't psychotic.

Gaara was never evil. He was emotionally unstable because he has the sand spirit inside him. Everything his uncle said was really how he feels. He wanted to die and he hated Gaara, so he took the opportunity to try and kill him. Gaara never had a chance. Thinking he's evil is easy, but these flashbacks show that he was a kid that had absolutely nobody who sincerely was looking after him.

If any neglected 5 year old got a Demon put inside them and had a power they didn't know how to control... they would definitely be emotional & confused and end up hurting a lot people, I don't think that makes them evil though. Unstable yeah, but not evil. Gaara's uncle though definitely did push him towards evil, because now he does this because he enjoys it. Also, the red mark on Gaara's forehead means Love.
