I personally had the same reaction as you guys to Smith. I missed Tennant awfully and also missed Tate as Donna - it literally went from my favourite companion to my least favourite. Having said that, this was my 3rd time through this episode and honestly, this makes me sound dumb, but this was the first time I really understood it properly and appreciated it so much more as a result, especially Karen Gillan's performance which I'd never rated before.
