This Episode Kills me everytime i watch it, its so sad and they do an amazing job at making you feel the loss. Its a testimate to writing good Characters, in a span of 45minutes you feel connected and believe that the doctor and Madame de Pompadour have a connection. Plus everything is warped up in the end. Such as why they wanted her brain. Because the ship was named after her when the computer or if you will Brain of the ship died the droids get confused and think they need to replace the computer with Madame de Pompadour's Brain. This is also why they answer and listen to her because they believe she is the computer. As for the clock work parts being left back in time it wouldn't have been much of an issue as it would have taken rebuilding to work out how the technology functions which if someone did do that they might as well have invented it themselves cos they'd need to be that clever to do so. But even if someone could figure it out,Madame de Pompadour being as smart as she was might have had the foresight to have them destroyed. Idn just a theory buuut in saying that... There was a continuity error in the episode when rose tells Madame de Pompadour the Droids will be coming. The doctor earlier say that the droids were scanner her mile-o-meter because the ship is 27 years old so when she's 27 she'll be compatible. Then rose goes through a new time windows and tells Madame de Pompadour who is at that point age 22 that the Droids will be coming 5 years from now before say they will be there sometime around your 37th birthday when she really meant to say 27th birthday. When she died it had been 16 years since the droids.

This is an incredibly popular episode and every time I watch it (this is probably the third time) I think 'oh maybe I'll 'get it' this time'... but I just don't. I think there's a couple of super-creepy moments, but other than that I don't really get the love story, I don't buy it for some reason. I also didn't get The Time Traveller's Wife (not Doctor Who) which had a very similar storyline, so maybe it's just not something that will ever work for me.
