That was a fun to watch reaction. This movie is such a classic. And by that I don't mean it's an exceptionally good movie but it's creative, daring for it's time and serve as a stepstone not only for it's own universe/franchise but for many sci-fi/action movies that came later and were heavily inspired by it. That in itself makes Predator a classic to watch for any cinema connoisseur and it well deserved a reaction on WNR. I feel obligated to mention Alan Silvestri's score that imo makes this movie age much better than it should have. Try to rewatch a few scenes of Predator on mute without score nor sound effects and it's suddenly just slow and pathetic. The score brings most of the tension. The rest of the franchise is extremely unequal. The direct sequel, 1990 Predator 2, is underated and actally better than most people gives it credit for. It's still an 80's action movie and suffer some flaws but I think it deserve to be watched/reacted to if only because it expand the lore and will give some answers to the questions you had at the end of the first opus. Plus it has Danny Glover and Bill Paxton in it, a good reason to watch in itself ... 2010 Predators and 2018 The Predator can simply be ignored. They are both poorly directed, full of plot holes, the acting is sometimes barely better than an Asylum production (even with a decent cast on paper, what were Adrien Brody and Laurence Fishburne doing in this shit show ?) and they add very little to the story. As for the crossover franchise Alien v. Predator that was good business not good cinema. I don't think you'll like it. To my own surprise (after the previous two and the crossovers my expectations were very very low) 2022 Prey is actually quite good. It's a prequel filled with references to the originals first two. The filming style and script structure are an hommage to the first one, straight to the action, little if any explanations/exposition but it works ! It works well. That was a good surprise and I think you guys should take a look at it.

Movie undoubtedly doesn't spoon feed information - which is in a way quite smart because it leaves you I guess wanting more. Predator 2 hints some lore that people (and I'm one of those people) had to wait 14 years to see realised. I still remember the teaser for -that movie- and the hype was off the charts; how do I put this without applying unnecessary negative impressions - it maybe didn't live up to the hype. I don't want to say more because we're going to get into spoilers - I do however want to talk about Shane Black who plays Hawkins (glasses guy with an echo problem) Shane black wrote Lethal Weapon which was released not too far away from this movie but also wrote and directed The Nice Guys which for me is definitely a movie that is up there, so I won't have a bad word said about him ;) He also, interestingly directed one of the most recent Predator movies. But seriously, the lore of this franchise is god-tier, even if the movies don't necessarily live up to that promise; but we can't talk about that until later.

The whole point of the first part of the film showing Dutch and his crew take out that military outpost was to display how badass soldiers these guys were. They weren't your average Joes. Very efficient, highly trained, highly coordinated group of men. They were the best of the best. And the second part of the movie showed how easily ONE Predator dismantled this group. The lore of Predator is actually super badass. They value honor and bravery. That's why at the end when Predator caught Dutch, he took a real close look at him, almost as if he's impressed. He's probably never had any human go toe to toe with him before...someone who figured out his weakness, someone who disabled his cloaking machine, and someone who's injured him this badly. That's why he took off his shoulder canon and face shield and decided to go mano a mano.

I agree. You should watch whatever movie you want, but even back in the day, we would have said either "Aw man, you gotta go see that" or "Don't waste your time with that one." Also, sometimes it's good to see "bad" movies from different eras. You can start to see the difference between good but not great movies versus just plain bad movies.

That's what makes me laugh about Prey. A Predator wipes out an entire modern day elite special forces unit, but a 90 pound sTrOnG wOmAn from the 1800s with sticks and stones can handle this one no problem because "they don't think she can"
