So many callbacks and tributes to other movies. My two favourites are "I picked a helluva day to quit drinking" as a callback to Lloyd Bridges in Airplane; Goldblum's "Must go faster, must go faster" is a callback to Goldblum in Jurassic Park. I'm sure there are others but those two stand out to me.

a really great movie :) it's not just a dumb action apocalypse film, the movie is actually really good. I even watched that as a child :D sure the alien scene was creepy sadly the second movie is pretty bad

I remember watching this in the theatre and not liking it. The line - "I'm a fighter pilot. I belong in the sky" really ticked me off. Your wife just died and you need to be with your daughter but if he would have said - "daughter, I have to go do this because blah blah blah" and had an emotionaI scene with her, I would have at least accepted the fact that the President is a fighter pilot. Just too many scenes for me like Oh, whatever. Maybe I'm just a jaded cynic.
