Ugh, i never watched this before or read the book because of the blatant heavy handed messaging, but I will say that animation and humor is spot on given the worldview. That being said, i never thought I'd say that Tolkien and LOTR a very interesting compare and contrast with this movie. One of the things Tolkien hated was the industrialization he found when he returned from WWI. The Scouring of the Shire, while Tolkien was very anti-allegory is thought to be a commentary on him returning from the war to find England industrialized. However, Tolkien's unfinished sequel to is more relevant to this. The short version is that by the time of this story few remember the War of the Ring, and the evils are Sauron, Sarumon, Melkor, the orcs is a joke to laugh about and not take seriously. kids go around destroying stuff and doing "orcs' work". There is a conversation between someone who as a boy did "orcs' work" and broke into the garden of this guy who lived during the war of the ring, and damage his fruit trees to make him think the orcs had really returned. That boy is now an adult, and was mentored by the owner of the garden. The gist of the conversation is whether or not there's a moral difference between taking an unripe apple just to do damage or to pluck a fruit to eat, between an orc chopping down trees just because or a human chopping down trees to use for firewood, and to a tree does the difference matter or are trees even the judge of humans. That isn't the actual plot of the story, just the set up for the two Main character's relationship. The entire story is only 14 pages, super fascinating, there's an audio recording of it that's only half an hour i'd recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7BZGngQ9G4
