When it was originally released critics thought it a bit of a "Ten Little Indians" rip-off, but Ridley Scott's direction and vision turned it into a classic. I saw it in the theatre when it was released and scared the s**t out of me and the 5 other people I was with. Stella's comments about it being "space UPS" are bang on because these people were "truck drivers" and mechanics, except Ash of course. They wouldn't have had training on how to deal with xenomorphs (spoiler for Aliens :-))
