I like The Shining but Doctor Sleep makes the The Shining even better. The way Cobra Kai TV Series elevates the Karate Kid franchise, Doctor Sleep does the same thing for the Shining, and believe it or not the two most important characters in these two films together of course Danny, but also surprisingly Dick Hollerann. Honestly, Dick is probably the MVP of this franchise for me.

Best two Stephen King adaptations for me is The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Doctor Sleep is a close 3rd. Also, really like Stephen King’s original TV miniseries of the Stand.

Probably my favorite horror book. We don't see it in the movie, but in the book Dick tells Danny to reach out to him with the Shine if he finds himself in serious trouble. And that's what was happening in the film when Danny was freaking out and foaming at the mouth. He was calling out to Dick.

There's a fun theory about the shining being connected somehow to all of Stephen King's books. Characters from his different books have different powers and levels of "shine".

Here’s a well known theory: Danny, when he was playing with his toys & the ball rolled to him, was wearing an Apollo 11 sweater. People believed he was wearing it because there are rumors that the moon landing was fake, & Stanley Kubrick might have been the one who filmed it since he made the movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, a year before the moon landing.

I think that I learned pretty recently is that Jack also has "The Shining" and that's where Danny gets it from, but Danny's is much more powerful. The Hotel itself is alive and using Jack to get to Danny. It wants Danny, but Danny's mind is too strong for it to manipulate him. Also, when Jack drnks, it makes his ability less. There's a big theory that he's an alcoholic to "turn off his part of that brain." So the Overlook is able to invade his thoughts pretty easily. So Haley, you were partially right by that, you seemed to get that Jack also had the Shine. There are so many theories and documentaries on this movie, and honestly that's one of the reasons I love it. We don't have all the answers, and as the movie goes on it feels like you just more and more questions.
