This still ranks as one of my all time favorite films. (Is it sad that I was able to watch your reaction and still know every line even though it was on mute?) I was 7 when it first came out and I remember going to see it in the theater with my mom. I had the soundtrack and played it every single day. I'm also pretty sure this was my introduction to Julie Andrews, who is, of course, a queen in her own right!

Ahhh, this movie is so nostalgic for me. :D My cousin and I used to watch it all the time, though she prefers the sequel (hey, what can I say, Chris Pine is a pretty man ;) ) I prefer this one a bit as I think it feels a little more grounded and has a little more heart to it than the sequel, but the sequel is still a really good and fun film. I mean, it has Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, and Chris Pine, how could it be bad? XD Fun fact - you may recognize Joe’s voice, because he voiced Wan Shi Tong in Avatar. You know, the creepy owl dude in the Library episode. XD He seriously has such an awesome voice, and he’s just a great actor overall. His and Clarisse’s romance is one of the best parts of both this film and its sequel, as well as his protective fatherly/grandfatherly relationship with Mia. Another Anne Hathaway classic you might want to consider is Ella Enchanted. It’s a kind of twist on Cinderella (it’s based on a book, but from what I recall it doesn’t hue super close to the book’s plot), it’s goofy and light-hearted and has great chemistry between the characters. Honestly, I’m always up for something if Anne Hathaway is in it, she’s one of my favorite actresses.

This movie was literally my childhood. So many fun facts about it! 1. Princess Diaries is actually based on a book of the same name by Meg Cabot. There are some huge differences though, like Queen Clarisse is not nice at all and her and Mia don't have a good relationship. Mia's dad is also alive in the books but has cancer and Mia and Michael don't get together until much later. However, the second movie just erases the rest of the books and takes a whole different direction. As much as I love Chris Pine I'm still kinda pissed about that but the movie is still good. 2. The movie was co-produced by Whitney Houston. 3. Aside from the bleachers scene, the dinner scene when Mia accidentally sets the guy's arm on fire, the flames were supposed to go out when he put his arm in the ice bucket but they didn't. Anne Hathaway panicked and threw the glass of water on it which was not scripted. 4. During auditions, Anne Hathaway fell out of her chair, and was immediately given the part as clumsy Mia Thermopolis. She was literally born for this role. 5. The on-screen relationship between Queen Clarisse and Joseph was not scripted. They just had so much chemistry, especially during the dance rehearsal scene. 6. Kathleen Marshall, who played Charlotte, is director Garry Marshall's daughter IRL. Garry also has a cameo as a guest at the ball. 7. Hector Elizondo who plays Joe is in like every Garry Marshall film there is. Princess Diaries 1 & 2, Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, Georgia Rule Valentine's Day, New Year's Eve, Mother's Day. He always plays these side characters that end up being the best characters and Joe is no different. I could add so much more but this is already too much!

YAY! I love this movie, and the sequel! There has been talk about making a 3rd one, so we will see! I love all the quirkiness in this, and the cast is just excellent. Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway are such a great duo in this. The 2nd one is even better!
