I think katara was right, despite the larger issue. just theoretically, if ukraine was ti rise up again russia, it would be town by town, which they are doing.

I do think that it depends on the situation. If they need to reach the rendezvous spot in 5 days and it is a 5 day flight, then they need to leave so that they don't miss the invasion. But if they can make time to spare then they should. If they did not help the village a lot of them if not all of them would have died. Having no medicine for the sick, eating mutated fish, and drinking polluted water would probably lead to all of them dying after some time. Who knows how many of them have already died. For those who would have died between now and when the Fire Nation is freed, freeing them wouldn't have helped at all. Basically, what it comes down to is do they make it to the invasion on time or not, if they miss the invasion, this came at the cost of the freedom and lives of many people around the world. If they do make it on time, then that means that they would have possibly left these people to die for nothing. In the end of the day, it depends on what the schedule is like. Does the schedule detail where they will be every day until the eclipse, or is it a sort of amount of progress they should be trying to make. Is the schedule leaving days to spare in case of delays or do they even know how long it takes to get to the rendezvous spot? Once we get to the rendezvous spot, we could go through and get all the delays through the past episodes and really see how much extra time they had. If they were really in a rush, they should have told Aang last episode that they didn't have time to spend letting him spend an extra day in school. So far we have 1 extra day spent with Aang in school, and at least 4 days spent in this river village. We'll have to see if they take any more detours in the next episodes.
