The thing about Kazuma's hair is that in the manga it's explained he started growing out he's hair once he decided to take in Kyo as a good luck type thing (there's apparently some kind of myth about that in Japan but Idk much about it tbh) but once he saw that Tohru completely excepted Kyo he cut it to symbolise putting an end to the part of he's life where he was bassically the only person to really look out for Kyo. This sort of thing also happens with another character later but I won't spoil the who or the why for you.

One of the little details I love in this episode is the repeating record in the background while Kazuma is meeting with Kyo’s biological father. Symbolizing his inability to change unlike Kyo who is trying to move forward. His dad is a broken record, repeating the same things over and over again and is unable to let go.
