Grease was originally a stage show and John Travolta was one of the only cast members that were in the original stage version. The movie is the best version with all the cast are played by older actors to give the illusion of a high school reunion.

I watched this when it premiered on TV, it was so fun to watch it live! I was so impressed that they were able to pull it all off. I never really liked Rizzo that much in the original movie, but I thought Vanessa Hudgens killed it as Rizzo in this.

Seeing her in this was one of my favorite parts! I didn't realize until the end when they took a bow together that that older TV producer guy was Frenchie's T-Bird boyfriend in the movie.

I had not seen this before, and it was a lot of fun! I was especially impressed with how they arranged it all to do it live. But, really, it mostly made me want to see the original movie again. A lot of the acting and some of the songs in this one weren't nearly as good to me compared to the 1978 movie. (Well, once you get past the fact that most of the actors in the movie look old enough to have kids in high school...) But I'm definitely biased, I saw the movie in theaters when it came out, and the Grease soundtrack was my first vinyl record that I owned - I was 10 or so :). We played that record to death that summer. I already loved Olivia Newton-John as a singer/pop star, but I only knew John Travolta as Vinny Barbarino on Welcome Back Kotter - had no idea he could sing and dance so well. I recognized the original Frenchie right away as Vi the diner lady, but kept thinking I should know who Mrs. Murdock was - had to look her up, can't believe that was Jan Brady! And I'm pretty sure the guy that Vi took a bow with at the end was Frenchie's boyfriend in the movie. Enjoyed this one, thanks for doing it!

I agree, the original movie is better...especially the singing and the dancing....the movie is a must just for Travolta alone....the musical moments in the film are SO good! :)

I'm going to see Aaron Tveit (Danny) on Broadway in Moulin Rouge when it reopens. He's a talented guy. Glad to see any reaction with him in it haha (feeling spoiled with this &amp; Les Mis) :D

I agree with caitlin b. feeling spoiler with 2 musicals same week. Thank you Hero Patron who chose this one. And because this seem as good place as any to ask about guilty pleasures getting on musical polls (and because main acress also signs in it xd) Rock of Ages? Jukebox fun where there will be a ton of songs you will recognize as the soundtrack is just very very 80s xd Also one of the funniest roles of Tom Cruise (this one may be a pro or con depending on how you feel about him xd)

The funniest joke in this entire show is so subtle and missed by so many people, but it had me crying from laughing the first time I watched it. “Nothing scares a cheerleader more than when she’s late.” Like being late with a period…
