My theory is that each sister can see different times, Shirley can see things happening in the present when she is asleep "Nellie is in the red room" Theo can sense the past with her touch, and Nellie obviously can see the future. The only instance that disproves the theory is when Theo saw the death of her mom, but the mom herself is a whole other deal. The boys don't seem to have any power besides Luke's psychic bond with Nellie.

I think Theo saw the future only because Olivia saw the future when she had those “migraines”. Every other instance has been the past.
