Geez I haven't seen this movie in 20 years. Still as frightening. I was 8 when it came out and even tho my parents let me see just about any movie in the theatre that came out no matter how scary or inappropriate doe my age, this one was off limits to me then.

Lady Beyond The Wall

I basically grew up on horror movies. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see this in a theater because I was born mid-80s.. HOWEVER - I grew up with a mother who was a horror movie lover. She's also the kind who would let us watch basically anything except like, hardcore porn, lol. I'm talking like, watching this movie at the age of 6 or 7. Now, she wasn't a bad mom in my opinion and whenever we were freaked out by something or even when we weren't, she'd explain how it wasn't real, point out how they did makeup or the different kind of effects. So my brother and I grew up loving horror movies. But, there were only 2 scary movies that *ever* gave me nightmares. First was Nightmare on Elm Street, but I think a big part of that was the concept of him getting you while you're sleeping. The second movie was this one. I'd have dreams my brother was possessed and puking up pea soup everywhere, lol. I was actually far more scared of aliens and alien movies. Fire in the Sky gave me nightmares for ages.

Rumpus Parable

A big part of this film that I liked that you guys kept going back to adddressing and a Lot of others don’t is how the things seen and heard by the family in the movie, the doctors, etc weren’t things *theyd* be put on guard by as supernatural/demonic, that medical science was behind, even psychiatry was pushed off as something not yet taken seriously unless evereything else was tried. It’s largely missed by reactors that so very, very, very many things seen now as signs in movies or modern life as potentially supernatural or demonic/possession COME FROM this movie's release. While it is based in already existing beliefs it wasn’t until this film that the things that scream all of possession were commonly thought of in a horror movie or the details in our common culture were background tropes we pull on now. Heck, WITH them all in our movies and US culture now, not even touching the paranormal end, too many people and doctors will try to find a way to explain things away as a physical ailments or odd coincidences to even avoid psychiatry. Mention paranormal anything even when seen themselves people will try to find excuses for.... rather than truly being scientific and trying to find the cause if it’s weird enough things get brushed under “what we already think” rather than “we don't know, so let’s find out”. Enjoyed that you kept going back again and again to “well, THEYD have no reason to think that” and “well, back then that’s how they handled/all theyd figured out yet about X behavior”. Too many watch this by today's horror film tropes it’s established, cultural familiarities put in place, and modern medical and psychiatric practices in their heads demanding why the film doesn’t follow that course rather than that of its time setting. Very enjoyed, thanks.

Yeah, that’s something that I think is a HUGE theme in this movie. I’m glad u noticed that and appreciated it as well
