I think my absolute favorite part of this series is there is no Patriarchy or Racism. It is all class based. So we see women and POC’s in all roles large and small and it is never a particular issue made like it would be here and now. Like Commander Paelor or Cressida. It’s just refreshing to see how it should be, at least when it comes to those two systemic nightmares.

Great job as always. Hubby and I watched and loved. I also love the progression of the side characters. I think my favorites are Cinna and Finnick. Finnick is introduced as the pretty boy killer and you expect him to have no depth but he does and it just gets deeper. You see that what he told Katniss when he first met her was actually true (him dealing in secrets) and that is isn't flippant. It serves a purposes of gaining intelligence on people. They really put time and effort into bringing every character to life. I'm so glad you guys are doing these. Can't wait for the next. And James, hubby wanted me to agree with you that Philip Seymour Hoffman was wonderful I'm everything he was I'm however Jason hated him in Scent of A Woman because of his character. Lol

this was so great! this movie is honestly even better than i remember and i'm obsessed with it's whole "moves and countermoves" theme and it's so cool to see you guys react to the change in tone of the movies from it first being a "game" to now being an all out war. as always i love ninetailedbrush's commentary especially with regards to his concerns with president coin, and also the different districts that are shown! i can't wait to see you're reaction to the final movie and all it's twists and turns!

These movies are worth a rewatch once you finish them. They foreshadowed Peeta's hijacking in the very first book/movie. The night before they entered the first hunger games arena, when Katniss goes to apologize to Peeta for attacking him after the interviews, Peeta says he doesn't want the Capitol to change him. He wants to be himself when he dies (of course he doesn't die then). But the quote about the Capitol changing who he is, the essence of his personality... and now we have him here at the end of Mockingjay pt. 1 almost unrecognizable. Pretty cool writing there.

I read these when i was MUCH younger, so it's been super enjoyable to watch these with more mature eyes. I've been loving it!

YES. I remember thinking it was boring when I watched it, but I appreciated it so much more this time.

I was glad to discover your interest in the media angle--I've seen a lot of reactors, but this is the first time my own interest in the whole media-manipulation has really been talked about. I love that theme, I love the way they work with it. The importance of storytelling and icons, the way they can be used and misused, and the cost to the person in the camera's eye. As to the hunting in D13, they do give the meat to the nutrition experts in 13, but it was a supplement, not a necessary thing. That said, hearing "freedom" in the context of "district 13" is kinda weird, because I have the book in my head, and the whole thing was how strict and controlling the district was, with every moment of the day accounted for and every meal carefully planned out by nutritionists down to the last nutrient. I feel like the one choice the movie made oddly was their treatment of Effie. I get why they had her there (in the book, she was also a prisoner in the Capitol, and the part she played here was split between Plutarch's partner and the prep team, but Effie is a great character so... you know, all for that), but they also totally reversed her introduction from what was in the book, and I think it skewed the presentation of D13. Here, Plutarch teases her and says she's "playing at being a prisoner of war," and reminds her that the door opens from the inside, but she won't go out because of the fashion. In the book, Katniss finds out that her preps are there because they've been put in jail and chained to a wall because they stole some bread, not understanding that they couldn't have just a bite more. It's a direct reversal of the introduction to the district, and I kind of wonder why they made that choice. But maybe that's just me. ;p

I get what’s ur saying at the end there. I do think they effectively do the same thing at the end of part 2 and I can understand how they wanted to make not completely HATE 13 out the gate, but really just as u learn more about Coin and the corruption
