And we have arrived at the last main content development week for 0.29.0. This week I went back to the dungeon crawling content and finally implemented the first volcano area.
The dungeon mirrors the Underwater dungeon but for the fire element. Instead of being protected by Air, you immediately take damage. However, on the bright side you don't get a debuff like the Underwater state and you don't get locked out from using items. Also, just like the Underwater dungeon can be countered by Air Bubble, the volcano area can be countered by Water Skin, especially the second rank which has been given the ability to negate minor environmental fire damage.
There are two new boss fights, one focusing on the passive heat damage mechanic, the other one focusing on willpower damage.
One big slowdown this week was that I had an older collection of walking sprites on a very old laptop that died last year. I didn't think much of it and went to the page where I had originally gotten them from, but it turns out they had died as well - I feel like there are less resources available to RPGMaker MZ now than 2 years ago :'D with them disappearing faster than new ones being made.
To deal with this, I searched for a pixel artist to create the pixel sprites, luckily its fairly cheap work. I was also lucky to quickly find someone to do the job, so I didn't have to resort to using weird placeholders for the walking sprite of the Greater Salamander boss. (Him blending in a bit with the environemnt on the screenshot is intended :D)
Moving on, the Nephlune Priestess now also opened up her church! Just speak to her if you have given her 4 drug formulas to destroy, she will give you a major corruption reducing item (Blessed Water+) and open up the church on the next day.
Here you will gain access to two new skill. The last rank I light spell "Divine Guard" which will make your Guard action twice as effective - Useful against enemies that have 1 attack that hits like a truck. And then another skill that I expect will be very useful for purity oriented players "Peaceful Mind" which negates 10 willpower damage from corruption on day start.
Finally, since I finished a bit ahead of schedule, we also have one new corruption scene to start the streaming story line. I also noticed that I messed some things up in my plans, the streaming story line only requires the Self-Acknowledgment Happiness Source to be reduced. So I could have already started this way sooner but I was looking at the requirements to start the the lewd streaming segment. Oh well, shouldn't be a big issue.
And that covers most of the new stuff. In addition to all the new things, it should also be mentioned that our assistant developer Trihan got a bunch of bugfixes in.
Also regarding freelancers, I have also had some more discussions with the trailer producer and let him know of all the feedback. He is currently preparing the next version. Emubi I have briefed about Homewrecking 3, I don't think it will make 0.29.0 though.
On the business side, I have also started unregistering my old address and moving everything to my new one. Lots of German burocratic stuff, and also a bunch fees. Due to various strikes in Germany, mail is currently massively slowed down so I am still waiting on several government documents and a new tax id. I hope that I have done everything correctly and not just accidentally destroyed my entire business :'D
Alright, that's pretty much it for this week. As a reminder, next week I will be on semi-vacation. That means I won't be scheduling any development work for myself next week. Hence, the 0.29.0-prerelease-4 from this week is pretty much already content complete. In the case that Emubi is faster than I anticipated with Homewrecking 3, I will integrate that CG but otherwise I don't expect anything new to get added. Our assissant developer Trihan will still continue work though, so there may be some more bugfixes or quality of life improvements yet to come.
That being said, it is not a proper vacation week (yet, let's try again next time :'D), as I still plan to continue to do some freelancer management and recuriting, in particular next week I plan to start our search for the secondary artist from the 6000€ goal.
