Interesting selection! I remember some good things about this one

Ashley

Hmm this is a movie I saw once 15 years ago and remember nothing about other than it being a poorly received remake of the 1951 classic.

Oh man I thought the SG1 reference you were gonna pull is the one where SG1 helps the Enkarans relocate to a new planet because their species has very specific requirements but little do they know another alien race is terraforming the planet for their own use. The aliens make a clone of an Enkaran so they can communicate.

Andrew Clifton

Enkaraens lol. And they have specific requirements. Sounds like a race of suoer Karens 😂🤣😅🤣😂

This is a solid one. Funny how sometimes it really does take something extreme to get people to come together and act right. Keanu is such a solid actor too.

"The Enkarans were humanoid, but their unique physiology made them extremely sensitive to specific atmospheric conditions. Without the exact environmental conditions the Enkarans went blind and eventually died. Their physiology was adapted to an extremely rare atmosphere which allowed them to thrive."

Imagine if dude spoke at the UN and was like : dear bros and brosettes of earth, either you cut the crap now or get deleted. I think it might have worked.

Solid reaction. I don't believe humans are evil I just think we have our wires crossed. We have lost sight of what's really important. There was a time when we acted out of self preservation. Now we act out of self interest. That's why I like the idea behind that movie where someone brings a box with a red button on it and gives you a choice. If you push the button you will become super rich (I can't remember the amount) but someone somewhere will die. If you don't push it nothing happens and things stay the same. An alarming amount of people would push it just to have more than they do regardless of the consequences.

Seen from the perspective of an otherworldly alien, humans are indeed evil. We exterminate other species so that we can go shopping and mindlessly consume. Our own convenience is more important than life itself. We are indeed what agent Smith said we are, a virus. Like a cancerous growth that spreads until it’s host is dead.

Andrew Clifton

Yes, as I said self interest vs self preservation. Self preservation is how most things act normally. Doing what you must to survive. Killing prey, establishing territory etc. Self interest is how humans behave. We destroy things to go above and beyond what we need to survive. The reason it isn't evil is bc evil requires intent. Our intent is to simply have nice things and live a comfy life. The negative things that happen are a byproduct of that. There are indeed evil humans and animals of other species as well but as a whole we are simply doing things how we were raises to do them.

The thing is, by shutting down the earth like a global EMP the aliens still deleted about 4+ billion people at least. Without electricity or machinery our mass food production collapses. You cannot feed millions of people using 1800's agrarian techniques. The US did a study and found that in the event of an EMP, about 90% of the countries population would be dead within a year due to starvation, exposure, and general lawlessness. Now think about how the rest of the planet would react? Yeah, I think facing those odds I'd rather be turned into mist.

I was so disappointed in this remake of the scifi classic. I am a total science fiction nerd especially the amazing stuff from the 50's and 60's. I guess if one hasn't seen the original than this movie is fairly good.
