On a side note, Joe wants us to open a joint bank account so both of us can put money in it. Don't know if it's a good idea?

Speaking from my personal experience, it would shift in the same kind of discussion, as "I have putted more money in the account than you", "But I have paid more bills", "If you wouldn't use electricity so much you would have less bills to pay" and so and so xD. The best is to have two separate accounts and each one have a record of his own. But this is my case, and is just an opinion xD

If you get a joint account only use it for spending on things you both use or do together, like vacation expenses, food expenses... BUT always keep your personal finances separate. If he has a car that you don't use, that's his expense. If you have a leather fetish, that's yours ;)
