I dated a guy a long time ago who has this problem. His voice want terribly high-pitched in person but the phone seemed to exaggerate it and amplify thise higher frequencies.

I don’t have that problem, I can see how that could be ego deflating :-(

My friend Rita has the opposite problem, she gets called "Sir" a lot!!! She's just learned to laugh it off. I feel for Jiang, though!!

I’ve been called ma’am on the phone a few times because of my slight upward pitch in my tone of voice. Or the fact, if I’m on a Xbox live party with friends online, a few have said I sound too white to sound black because I don’t use urban Ebonics like in Atlanta or NYC. The micro aggressions like that annoy me so much đŸ˜€đŸ˜€

I have had to create a “man” voice for the phone. I have to deliberately lower it or I get the same thing.

A friend of mine was told something similar. Her father's people are from Atlanta (I think) but she was raised here in Canada by her Mom. One of her US cousins told her father that she "sounded really white". Her Dad's response was: "That's because she was raised in Canada!" It just seemed such an odd conversation to her, and to me as well.

That's embarrassing, sorry for him! I can't remember if some person on the phone said "man" or "ma'm" to me once ...

I had a person refuse to talk to me about my account because I was “clearly a woman impersonating myself”, it was so stupid đŸ˜Ș
