From Chris: Finally out on Blu-ray after all these years, rescued by Shout  Factory! You'll be surprised to know this tearjerker is one of my  favorite movies. Maybe not in the top 50 of all time, but certainly in  my top 100. Mandy Moore makes the transition from pop singer to actress  in this wholesome and poignant story of a high school bad boy falling  for the minister's daughter. The role is made for her so she fits it  well.

Shane West is remarkable in this, a  performance far beyond his years. He should have become a bigger star  with his talents, eventually settling in as a television actor about a  decade after this movie. I came across this movie back in 2002 when I  was buying DVDs sight unseen practically on a weekly basis - for a few  years I decided buying was a better value than renting in DVD's glory  days.

Anyway, the transfer is older but  respectable, providing adequate definition with minimal processing. Not a  supersharp film and the early scenes could use a little more color  correction. Not a shiny new 4K scan but it is from the original  negative.
