Video

Undoubtedly captured on a cheap film stock, the heavy, this grain structure looks akin to 16mm. Film Detective's encode holds up the best it can, but imperfectly. Compression is a common fault, leaving the imagery noisy and thus reducing visible texture. Passable resolution captures enough detail to notice the HD qualities however barely. Cheap desert landscapes present rocky formations and dried grass, the definition pleasing.

Gray scale problems leave Brain from Planet Arous washed out. Black levels never reach the deepest black, while the contrast shows notable clipping whenever outside in the sun. Depth isn't this disc's strong suit.

The print itself shows the occasional vertical scratch. Restoration work keeps these under control or minimized typically. A stray bit of dust isn't concerning. A dropped frame now and then thankfully doesn't cause any audio skips.

Audio

Quality DTS-HD mono gives the dialog a precise quality unusual for something this aged and cheap. Other than messy echoes inside caves, Brain from Planet Arous performs better than expectations. Likewise, the score hits high peaks from treble minus any distortion, which is impressive.
