From Chris: This always felt like a step-down from the '90s DC cartoons led by Bruce Timm, Alan Burnett, and Paul Dini. Less aimed at adults and more a vehicle to sell toys to children, courtesy of Mattel. The show finally opens up Batman's world a little beyond Gotham by the tail end of season four, introducing Batman to heroes like the Martian Manhunter. It's a simple action series with a heavy focus on Batman's tech gadgets. It was animated in HD using the Ink and Paint process many cartoons were using in the 2000s.
This show never really developed a huge fandom and the character designs were polarizing - the weird Penguin and Joker re-designs were often mocked. Its only lasting impact may be the Batgirl design, which influenced the modern "Burnside" costume coming to theaters soon.
